Cartoon Network has announced a Saturday, July 31 premiere of JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED, the new spinoff series from JUSTICE LEAGUE. The 30-minute show will debut at 8:30 PM that day on the channel.
JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED picks up a short time after the events in the earlier series climax, with the Justice League dissolved in the aftermath of Earth's fight with the Thangarians (Hawkgirl's people). As the new show opens, Superman realizes that there is still a need for a group of superheroes to safeguard the planet and protect it from alien invasions, destructive supervillains and other planetary threats. By asking some of his former comrades as well as a number of new faces to join the new Justice League, the Man of Steel is able to grow the superteam's roster and draw from a larger group of heroes with powers better suited to solve each crisis.
Joining the League will be old school heroes such as Wonder Woman, Batman and Green Lantern, with Martian Manhunter supervising the strike teams from the League's orbiting space station, the Watchtower. New heroes like Green Arrow, The Atom, B'wana Beast, The Question, Captain Atom, Booster Gold, Zatanna, Hawk and Dove and Supergirl will become reserve members, assigned on a case-by-case basis by the senior members of the League.
Cartoon Network has also released plot descriptions of the show's first five episodes:
JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED is produced by Bruce Timm, James Tucker, Linda Steiner and Dwayne McDuffie.
