JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED Updates

By: News Editor

One of Cinescape's scoopers provided an update and some info on JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED series:

I was at Comic Con last week, and Sat. evening I attended the Justice League Unlimited panel with Bruce Timm, et. al. We were shown the final episode of this current season (a few hours ahead of everyone else, except for Canada), and we were treated to the first few minutes of the opening episode for next (2006) season.

The episode opened with the police chasing down an escaped Lex Luthor. Lex is driving a prisoner transport van while wearing broken handcuffs. The van flips after jumping off a steep hill, and Lex scrambles out of the van and into an alley while wearing leg shackles. The alley is a dead end. Lex turns to face the police pursuing him, when two arms come out of a shadow in the wall behind him.

The arms grab Lex and drag him through the wall. The police start firing at the wall (and Lex's disappearing legs), when thy are told to cease fire. The next scene we see is that of Lex riding on the back of a jetcycle of some kind being driven by the guy who dragged him through the wall. The cycle stops and Lex's rescuer tells him that this is where the boss told him to drop Lex off (the location happens to be in the middle of a swamp).

Lex asks who exactly is the boss, when we hear the disembodied voice of Gorilla Grod announcing that it's him. Grod then shimmers into appearance and asks Lex to join him against the Justice League. Lex at first balks at the idea that just the two of them taking on the JLU is a bad idea until Grod tells him that he has recruited others. At this point, Grod points a remote at the swamp, and the Legion of Doom headquarters shimmers into view.

Then the 'teeth' of the dome open to reveal about 20-30 villians all backlit by a bright light. Lex agrees and that's where the scene ended to a thunderous applause in the hall by the audience gathered there.

LOD! LOD! LOD!

Damn straight! I was worried that one of the best shows on TV would be canceled. Glad that they're continuing the show.

Just an FYI to everyone reading, that picture of the LOD HQ was scanned from a postcard that they handed out to us at Comic Con. So yes, that's what the HQ actually looks like in the episode. :D

The show has been fun. There was some concern it might be done, so this is nice to hear. Besides the original seven that had their own show for a couple seasons it's nice to see all these other heroes if only for a brief glimpse. So far we've mostly followed Green Arrow, Black Canary, The Question, Huntress, Supergirl, Captain Atom and maybe a few others for anything more than brief appearances or enough to see some character development. I'd like to see more and I think this show could conceivably go on indefinitely as long as they don't try to push too much in all at once.

This is far and away the best serialized animated series since BTAS and Batman Beyond left the airwaves. The Cartoon Network needs to get off their hind ends and instead of running back to back to back episodes of the ultra-lame TEEN TITANS and just dedicate an hour or so showing JL, JLU, BTAS, STAS, and BB. The worlds created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini are too rich to allow more eps of some of the really bad anime that's on right now to have endless repeats and have no justice for the JUSTICE LEAGUE!

MEANWHILE WHERE IS THE HALL OF JUSTICE BEING BUILT?

And we better get BLACK MANTA. And the real HAWKMAN. PLUS how about breaking off the JSA. I love the originals but we need more charcter storylines outside of the original team. And can TEEN TITANS please get rid of Robin's sneaker boots.

How about a few Justice League shows or Tales from the DC universe, Brave and the Bold, Worlds Finest. There are different Law and Orders and CSI's after all.

It'll be interesting to see how the LOD angle plays out. Will it be a season long arc, like Cadmus was last season, or something smaller?

Last season will be tuff to top but with phenomenal writers like McDuffie around, it's possible.

They do seem to like doing season long story arcs with possibly a few hanging threads for future seasons and some episodes that don't further the season arc much if at all. I was thinking of spin offs featuring different groupings of Justice Leaguers in different areas of course I like the Justice Society too and we haven't seen much of them here. The Brave and the Bold and World's Finest are good ideas for names of some of these spin offs that feature heroes we don't usually see much. You know I have wondered about Hawkman from the beginning and I don't remember seeing him in any of those Thanagarian episodes. And I was never quite right about her relationship with Green Lantern because of that. I'm a little disturbed that the Thanagarians became such bad guys. I don't remember any of that unless things have changed since I used to read. I was interested in the Batman/Wonder Woman relationship though. Since then The Green Arrow/Black Canary and The Question/Huntress as well as Green Lantern/Vixen have been interesting. I'm sure there is plenty to do next.

Teen titans isn't lame it's just, well, for kids! It's extra cartoony and wacky. And besides if you're gonna put it side by side with JLU, it has to look a little lame since they are from the same universe.

I would love a teen titans more faithful to the current grown-up team, but I can hang with the cute version.
