What They Say
Hidden deep in the ancient Himalayan Mountains, a beautiful princess is found in the ice. Dr. Aikawa revives the sensual princess in his own special way. Now that the lovely Princess Surya has been brought back to life, the fun begins. With love struck eyes, Ryu, Dr. Aikawa's son, decides he must master the 48 positions of the ancient art of love, as described in the classic Indian text, the Kama Sutra. Little does he realize how much trouble a beautiful princess can be, until he finds he must protect her from the vicious Indian cult, the Mali Clan.

The Review!
Toho dips its fingers into the hentai jar and comes up with a campy little adventure thats so light on the sex you can barely call it softcore.

Audio:
For our primary viewing session, we listened to this show in its original language of Japanese. The stereo track is really no more than a basic mono track as practically all the dialogue and effects are center channel based. Dialogue is crisp but a little scratch in some of the high-pitched areas. We didnt notice any dropouts or other distortions though.

Video:
Originally released in 1991, the transfer here looks decent but shows some basic wear and tear in the print with some dirt, specs and a cut or two here and there. Colors look good though a bit faded, but the show itself looks nice and sharp.

Packaging:
A quick look at the cover and youll be convinced its not anime with the character design used to highlight the show, as the young Indian woman is surrounded by statues of snakes, with a heavy use of gold and brown colors. The back cover provides some shots that more resemble the anime were used to and has a brief summary of what to expect. The discs production credits and technical information is all nicely listed out here. The insert has the same artwork as the cover but without the character artwork and it lists the chapter stops. The reverse side is just boxart advertisements for other shows.

Menu:
The menu utilizes the same artwork as the menu with the snakes looking in across the tower, with the few minor selections available listed there. Access times are nice and fast and getting around is pretty simple.

Extras:
None.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
I was surprised when this started off and the Toho logo came up, having not seen anything even remotely hentai-like out of them before. And then knowing the date from which this was done, it became pretty easy to tell that this is really hentai-light. Anyone looking for anything explicit had best move on. Though Go Nagai is attached to this, it doesnt get all that detailed.

The story takes place originally 1500 years ago as a young man and woman fight to save their kingdom from an invading warrior. The young man defending the princess ends up getting his head and arm cut off defending her. As the dark warrior is ready to take the woman, a giant green hand comes from out of the sky and scoops her up.

This is one of those times where your eyes just roll and roll hard. Well, not that kind of hard.

The mystical forces take Princess Surya and place her in a frozen boat and puts her deep into the mountains. In the present day, a crazy old coot of an archaeologist finds her while on a search dig with his team and son. The find is quite the media event, at least in India where the professor gets interviewed and his old coot nature really shines. When hes asked how they intend to revive her, he goes on about how theres no technology today that can do it.

But theyre going to mix some semen and love juice in a special cup and pour it on her.

Yes, you read that right. Once freed of the boat, they pour this on her frozen lips and she comes back to life, completely fluent in modern language. And its not long before theyre out driving around town and shes amazed that it all looks the same. Never mind those pesky cars or anything though. But her life isnt going to be all good as theres a pesky reincarnated version of the dark warrior who wants the special cup she now has, as itll lead to a secret place where his dreams can be granted. And so in the old tradition of chase movies, the chase is on

Throughout this, you have the main cast of Ryu taking care of Surya, at least when Shakty isnt teaching him various sexual positions, and then his girlfriend Yukari decides to come and spend time with him, as well as causing major problems that only serve to help the enemy. You really do just sit there and watch this play out and wonder why they bothered with a script. It makes sense in its own way, but its just chaotic at times you have to wonder.

The sex scenes for lack of a better description are pretty standard stuff without really seeing any particular part. Most of it is just for the face visual moments, though the character designs are often simple enough that theyre pleasing on the eye. You just wish theyd done more with it, as it doesnt really have too much of an impact on things for the most part.

With a forty-five minute runtime, a campy and laugh inducing plot and a minimal amount of actual sex, its hard to recommend as a hentai. Maybe as a light sex-comedy-international-adventure show, but even then youre going to laugh more at the fact someone thought this was a good plot than anything else.
