I thought the first movie was good so I'll definitely watch this one also. But like the first one, I'll probably wait until it comes to cable.

I've yet to watch the first film. Its been on Cartoon Network plenty of times this year, but I've yet to invest the interest into it so I suppose I have to work myself up for it to look at it.

I really didn't think the first one was as bad as others made it out to be.  Not as good as any of the Harry Potter movies, but better than Clash of the Titans, which was out around the same time.

The first movie didn't thrill me. I haven't read the books but the way the first was done kind of felt like Generic Teen Fantasy Film, almost a Harry Potter-lite. It felt kinda cliched with a comic relief sex-obessed sidekick, an uninteresting budding romance between Percy and the girl, trials and tasks that came across more light-hearted than really scary and thrilling, etc. I love the basic premise and I'm sure the books are very good but the movie execution was uninpired for me. Loved the music though.

I'll see the sequel when it hits cable.

I'm looking forward to this one since I've read the entire series of books and enjoyed them. This one seems to keep to the overall story arc of the book, with one major exception (the fact that Grover wasn't on the quest he was part of it because he was catured while looking for Pan). Can't wait to see it.

I am reposting a comment about this film that I made earlier, because I still do not see how they are going to do any justice to the series.  The first movie was written so poorly when compared to the book. Original post follows:

The movie had an an amazing, but ultimately wasted cast. The movie did not stick to the book at all, which was surprising considering that Chris Columbus stayed remarkably close to the Harry Potter novels when making the first two films.

Spoiler Alert: The Jackson movie totally ignored the fact that Kronos, not Lucas, is the big bad of the story. In fact the whole Kronos storyline which is the central plot of the novels was ignored and the film simply focused on the daddy issues that Lucas had torwards Hermes. The film also combined Annabeth and Clarisse (the daughter of Ares, and a thorn in Percy's side ) into one character. Furthermore, Clarisse is a central character in the second novel and one of the major heros of the fifth book. Yet, she wasn't even mentioned in the film.

I am fully aware that a book cannot be translated word for word onto a film screen, but it was if they simply picked a few random ellements of the source material and then threw a whole bunch of crap against a wall to see what would stick. However, with the comparible example of Harry Potter or even the Lord of the Rings series, a much better effort could have been made to stay true to the novel and not remove essential story elements that extended throughout the five books; especially as they wish to make sequels.

Redshirt i agree completely with your assessment. Kronos should at least have been mentioned as should clairsse. The fact that chris columbus did ghis movie is suprising considering how close to the book he did harry potter.

I dug the first so will check this out but I have to admit that the taxi thing bothers me. Just seems like something out of Harry Potter

My daughter and I loved the first movie,  My son, who read the book, was very disappointed.  I was really looking forward to this until I saw the trailer.  I feel like it is trying to be like too many other movies before it.  Even just the tongue of that gorgon (if that's what it was) looked like something from transformers.  Though that is probably because of all the 3D crap being shoved down our faces.  That said, I'm still going I'm sure, unless the critics give it like 10% on rotten tomatoes.
