Peter OToole has Passed

Goodbye Mr. Chips

A great legend of the silver screen has passed. As cinema fans around the world remember Peter O’Toole I take comfort in knowing that he is probably sitting in a pub up there having a drink with his good friend Richard Harris. I’ll bet that the real T.E. Lawrence is probably buying.

His daughter, Kate O’Toole, had this to say about her father’s passing: "His family are very appreciative and completely overwhelmed by the outpouring of real love and affection being expressed towards him, and to us, during this unhappy time. Thank you all, from the bottom of our hearts."

O’Toole, who had recently announced his retirement from acting, had this to say about his exit from his chosen profession: "I bid the profession a dry-eyed and profoundly grateful farewell." Oddly enough the Irish born actor still has one film to be released, Katherine of Alexandria

Best known for his role in David Lean’s Lawrence of Arabia, O’Toole did everything from television to stage. He even did cartoons and superhero movies. He had been nominated 7 seven times for an Academy Award, all for Best Leading Actor, before the Academy finally gave him an honorary award in 2003. He would then get nominated again in 2007.

Mania’s thoughts and prayers go out to the O’Toole family.

I miss him already. He has been and always be one of my favorites. Eternity is filled with remarkable people, Peter O'Toole is in good company.

I finally got around to seeing Lawrence last year.  It was a good movie.  Strange how they started off with him dying in a reckless motorcycle accident.

One of the greats others are measured by. Good Journey to you sir.

We also lost Joan Fontaine and Billy Jack's Tom McLaughlin too. Look like that Hollywood deaths in threes did its work this weekend.

Tom Laughlin the star of the Billy Jack films also died yesterday. He was two years older than O'Toole.

He may have passed, but his legacy will stay with us forever. Gone but never forgotten. R.I.P. Peter O' Toole

Thanks for all the great works Mr. O'Toole. You are one of the last great gentlemen actors out there.

A dying breed indeed.

Laz, we still have Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellan. But yeah you are right he always came across as a gentlemen.

LadyBrowncoat 12/16/2013 8:52:06 AM

A seriously classy guy.  Rest in peace, good sir.

Two of my current favorites that I include in that catagory are James Earl Jones and Malcolm McDowell.

And if you have not seen their commercials for cell phone texting conversations you are missing out.
