KaraS-

If I remember correctly Kirk and Uhura did kiss once in ST. I enjoyed that they gave Uhura a relationship and that it was/is with Spock. It made fir a funny moment when Kirk –who is obviously attracted to her (and every other hot girl) - asks him about her name near the end in the scene you hate so much. I loved it.

And she did not make Spock make special considerations for her due to their relationship; it was in spite of their relationship. She was excellent at her job and she deserved to be on a top ship. He had put her on a smaller less important ship trying not to show favoritism. Seeing her as a spoiled tramp is laughable, but I saw her in no such way. She impressed me and I appreciated the fact that they put her with an intellectual. She is now one of my favorite characters where before she was just background (except when she held the gun on the guy in The Search for Spock).
And she loved Spock, why not say goodbye to the man (Vulcan) you love when he might not ever come back alive. And as for going along, ha, she was a communications officer, now that would be unbelievable.

As for an alternate universe – it doesn’t bother me, because I do not want to see the same stories. I want new stories and now we have that. I don’t want a remake of Kahn.

Now for your WTF rant:
Movies are full of coincidence. Most movies couldn’t be made without them. Is that poor writing? Sometimes. If Nero’s ship (and I hate his name by the way) hadn’t run into Kirk’s dad’s ship then the movie doesn’t take place, the alternate reality doesn’t happen, but that’s what they wanted. If Nero had meant to run into that ship then that would have been unbelievable, but as an accident it is more credible/believable.

Size of the ship – As far as the shows go the ships have always gotten bigger with each successful Enterprise and other ships as well, so why not. As for appearance – who cares – different designer, it is a work vessel after all and of course would have been armed as they are a warring nation.

Star Fleet academy can’t be that great. Look at all the red shirts that get killed all the time, HA! As for asking Kirk, we don’t know what type of schooling her already had, but we know he is brilliant so it’s very plausible he was already prepared and just didn’t join.

Spock’s Ship- I’m sure Nero will save his planet 50 years from now or before (if he hadn’t already in the 20 year wait), but he wanted revenge on Spock and that was what the movie was about. Revenge for the pain he felt.

As for the Crew helming the ship – Remember Chekov is a genius and one of the youngest graduates ever. Sulu was only there because of the other officer’s illness. Everyone else on the bridge was experienced, until Uhura was brought in because of a skill no one else possessed. Remember this crew is the elite of the elite that’s why they always win.
As for Kirk getting on with McCoy that is just so funny. Not sure why you don’t like that. It was clever if you ask me.

The romulans ship must have destroyed all of the Vulcan’s ship. Not sure why you assume they had none. But remember 70 years of advanced Tech for the Romulans. The whole point of the movie is that this ship kicks ass. Just except that.

Kirk getting Kicked off was dumb no argument, but it lead to some funny scenes later.
Meeting Spock was ridiculous, but also not that big of a deal, fun to see the old guy act.

Seeing Vulcan from a nearby planet. Is it possible that two planets could spin around one another? Yes. Would that planet be affected by the singularity, sure in time that entire portion of the galaxy would. Bad science? Yes. Science shouldn’t ever be an argument. I rarely see a movie that is realistic from Hollywood. The original Star Trek and all that followed are completely unrealistic as far as science goes and I am a physics and chemistry teacher so I would know and yet I don’t let it bother me. It’s fantasy remember?

Oh and Spock was not the Captain when he went to the Romulan ship. In fact he wasn’t even first officer at that point. Kirk was captain. As for them going, have you ever watched Star Trek in your life? They always go do the dangerous stuff. That’s what the show is all about. Is that realistic as far as our military no, but it is Star Trek after all. I give you a WTF for even thinking that is WTF. And Kirk had all but graduated. They just didn’t have the ceremony and he was on probation, but nothing else. A captain made him an acting first officer based on Kirk’s ability and knowledge of the situation, a choice I would have made myself knowing Kirk as he did. Is it realistic, who cares, it’s fricking awesome and so Star Trek.

Kara just to let you know. It isn't that simple about stars. And also a star has to be huge to go super nova and that would be the type of star that could possibly become a Black Hole. If that is even possible. Now that said. Only the largest of the superstars would have enough matter. The rest would become Neutron stars. Also Stars that go Nova do so many times over and over before they finally become a white dwarf and then possibly a black dwarf, if that exists. Just useless trivia.

And by the way the science in Wrath of Kahn is way off. Also many mistakes. For instance. Chekov wasn't in the episode with Kahn, so when Kahn says I never forget a face it's silly since they never met. I will stop there as you can argue that easily, but just a silly mistake to me.

Hey Kara, I'm still going to like the movie, but if you want to watch Star Trek again and laugh your ass off, get the RiffTrax of it.  If you're not familiar with RiffTrax, it's the guys who did Mystery Science Theater 3000 doing audio tracks to actual popular movies...it is absolutely KILLING me right now, and you'd probably thoroughly appreciate it!

Hey Darlin'.  I've actually got a poser of a question to start a discussion on Supernatural, but I'm really pissed that there's nowhere where it will actually get any traffic here.  I might go drop it in the Lounge at coronacomingattractions.com.

I totaly agree with u on the Star Trek, Abrams could of breath new life after Nemsis, not an alternative time line.
