Maybe JURASSIC PARK III will teach those silly scientists to stay away from dino-infested islands

Kathleen Kennedy talks JURASSIC PARK III

While promoting the soon-to-be-released Kubrick/Spielberg sci-fi feature A.I., producer Kathleen Kennedy took a moment to express her enthusiasm for her upcoming JURASSIC PARK III.
'I'm very happy it,' says Kennedy of the third installment in the dino-franchise. 'It's been such a wild ride in this because these two movies [A.I. and JURASSIC PARK III] couldn't be more different, so to go back and forth between the two has been pretty interesting and challenging.'
In this go 'round which, for continuity buffs out there, actually takes place before THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK director Joe Johnston is the man wreaking havoc on the island populated by dinosaurs. According to Kennedy, Spielberg was more than ready to pass the franchise over to a helmer with a new vision.
'I think Steven really felt that he had kind of done that with doing two movies in a row,' says Kennedy. 'It's really ironic to have Joe Johnston come into this because Joe goes way back with us at ILM. He started out as a visual effects supervisor and then decided he wanted to direct. So he went back to USC and got his degree and started making movies, so to have him come full circle in this has been great. He kept begging Steven to do the second one, so when Steven did the second one he promised Joe he could do the third. He's done a great job.'
As for a JURASSIC PARK IV, the mere thought of such a massive undertaking sends the producer into a state of shock.
'You don't know how tired that makes me just to think about it,' jokes Kennedy. 'I'm not very serious [about a fourth film] right now.'
However, only time and box office dollars will tell.
