Box Office: Disney's CHIHUAHUA Takes Down the Eagle Eye - Oct 05, 2008 - 03:42pm
I'm glad the skins are finally using cooley again, now if only the Steelers can also go 4-1 tonight... Body of Lies is winning next week, hands down.

Alex Proyas Updates on Adapting Dracula's YEAR ZERO - Aug 29, 2008 - 08:28am
I love Proyas as a director and frankly, I trust him. Can't wait to see how this turns out.

Universal Acquires Robert Jordan's WHEEL OF TIME - Aug 14, 2008 - 12:50pm
Yeah Rand al'Thor!Isgrimner I heard that as well about Red Eagle; it does indeed look like they held on to the bulk of distribution and merchandising rights for the series...which is pretty shitty considering they couldn't even establish a respectful rapport with RJ in the first place. And yes, Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series is terrible.

Universal Acquires Robert Jordan's WHEEL OF TIME - Aug 13, 2008 - 08:21am
Hands down the best fantasy series to date. Aside from Red Eagle Entertainment's blundering of graphic novels and other related merchandise, I'm worried that Universal just won't throw enough money at this project to execute it well. Here's to hoping. And I totally agree with you monkeypie that WoT would work better as an HBO TV series than as a set of feature-length films. Take it the "A Song of Ice and Fire" route.

Book Buzz: Year of the Spaceship - Aug 04, 2008 - 10:02am
I don't think $200,000 is really that much to get into space, especially considering that the company predicts that price will go down to below $90,000 within five years of the first flight. Besides rich people have been soliciting the Russian government to take them up for tens of millions since the Apollo missions. zack2366 you should check out Virgin Galactic's website if you're worried about space tourism further affecting the environment; part of Galactic's credo involves environmentalism and stresses the use of renewable resources as opposed to fossil fuels (it was space exploration in the first place that identified climate change here on Earth). If the White Knight Two and SpaceShipTwo designs prove to be safe, over the next handful of decades airliners will start switching to a flight path similar to what Galactic's ships will use, i.e., hyperbolic trajectories that will have planes dip into the outer atmosphere before descending back to their destinations for faster and more efficient global travel.

Book Buzz: From Novik to Heinlein and George R.R. Martin, Deluxe Editions - Jul 29, 2008 - 07:46am
I hear you Sanity, I keep checking GRRM's website almost every day to see that much hoped for announcement under his Ice and Fire Update. Unfortunately he's still cavorting in Spain!ddiaz I'm sure a more mainstream publisher will be releasing Novik's series retroactively in hardback, but as of now His Majesty's Dragon is only in hardback through Subterranean and their prints are all sold out (but you can still find them on Amazon). If you like the spiffy artwork of Throne of Jade snag that now; I know Amazon has them for cheaper than Subterranean ($78.75 compared to $125). This series is definitely on my list to read, I've heard great things about the books and a big-screen adaptation of a Napoleonic battle with dragons seems like it would be amazing.

Mania Manifesto: Top 8 Comic Book Video Games - Jul 08, 2008 - 07:06pm
My brother and I would literally get red-faced and sweaty playing the TMNT arcade game, man was that badass. I was about to cry foul that none of the Golden Axe titles were mentioned on the list...but then I remembered that was never a comic book (I think).

Book Buzz: The Author-Reader Relationship - Jul 08, 2008 - 06:33pm
That's cool about John Ringo's suggested song lists, I often wondered if any authors had particular songs in mind while establishing a certain scene's mood, I know I did when writing a couple screenplays.

Man I caught Indian Jones 4 this weekend and boy was it terrible. Anybody else think so?

Book Buzz: Puttin’ the Folk Back in Hellboy - Jun 17, 2008 - 04:38am
A lot of del Toro's Labyrinth sensibilities seem to have pervaded the style and art design of this second Hellboy installment. I thoroughly enjoyed the first film, but I never thought it would get a theatrical sequel so soon, or under the same creative team. I hope the more mythical, horror storyline resonates with the Hellboy lore enough to gather a wide audience. The only thing for certain though is that July is gonna be one kickass month for movies.

First Teaser Trailer for PUNISHER - Jun 13, 2008 - 04:01pm
Don't like the cliched drop down from the ceiling and shoot in a 360 degree circle. That took up like, half the time of this teaser...and Boondock Saints did it better.

Manic Maniac: Mania news with a cynical twist - Jun 12, 2008 - 03:26pm
Nice article Joe, but I have to be one of those dissenting nay-sayers on your presented concept of the Singularity. The Singularity isn't the point at which software will be able to grant us immortality, it's the point at which human beings will no longer be able to predict the future of technological and scientific development with any accuracy. This will definitely be owed in large part to advanced computers and AI software, but take a glance outside of Kurzweil's dissertation to get a more well-rounded view of the Singularity concept as a whole (the topics discussed every year at Stanford's Singularity Summit are a good start).

Book Buzz: Starship Troopers Nostalgia - May 26, 2008 - 08:24am
Hell yes chirop you and I are on the same page regarding the similarities between Starcraft and Starship Troopers. They were both in production around the same time (Starcraft came out a year after the theatrical release of Verhoeven's Troopers) and the zerglings look suspiciously like Arachnid warrior bugs...just bigger.I think it's interesting that one of the concepts Heinlein was praised for with Starship Troopers was his idea of powered combat suits, something that never made it to the screen (but is definitely utilized in Blizzard's game). Heinlein's thorough and descriptive writing really put life into the powered combat suit idea, something the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency would later dump a lot of money into (under the Exoskeletons for Human Performance Augmentation program).Verhoeven definiely brought that intense sci-fi action feel that he attained in both ROBOCOP and TOTAL RECALL to the Starship Troopers project; I think that's why there are so many damn memorable scenes in the movie. The dude getting killed in training bootcamp, Dizzy & Rasczak's death, even the classrooms in Buenos Aires (which was a nice consistency with the book) were all extremely memorable. Man what a great film.

Mania Manifesto: Top 4 Reasons Tomorrow's Food Is Going to Suck - May 20, 2008 - 11:18am
Hah I like how Damon's article on the future of food sparked yet another debate on Climate Change. I agree with gauleyboy that, at this point, anyone who doesn't think that Climate Change is a serious threat has been grossly misinformed. What's worse than the fact that this phenomenon is actually happening is how poorly concrete, scientific knowledge has been disseminated throughout the public. Part of science curriculum now, at least at the collegiate level, involves learning the mechanisms by which heat is trapped in our atmosphere. I learned it in school but many people, especially those of the older generation, are still listening to governmental officials, lobbyists, and other personnel who have interests in keeping America's energy policy running as it always has.Damon I'm surprised you didn't mention anything about the dire conditions of the fishing industry. Also I loved your columns on Mania a while ago when they had more meat to them; these at-a-glance paragraphs are nicely organized but I want more!

Laura Dern Returns for JURASSIC 4 - May 19, 2008 - 11:05am
So Spielberg is back on for this project? The last I heard Jonathan Sayles was set to write and direct the fourth JP, which would have been very cool considering his work is almost all made outside of the mainstream Hollywood circuit. I guess he's out. Jurassic Park 3 was god awful, Spielberg should've had his left nut cut off for producing that garbage.

Redband Trailer for TROPIC THUNDER - May 18, 2008 - 10:51pm
Wow yeah same thing happened for me too sportwarrior, that is scary (damn you market research!). Love the R-rating and love that you passed this along Jarrod.

Top Maniacal Rumors: Pitt Wielding a Mighty Hammer? - May 16, 2008 - 08:33am
Haha Kimbo. Pitt's the type of actor that has the charisma to pull off Thor without any CGI interference. I'll be the first to admit I'm not well-read on the comicbook lore concerning the Norse god but I agree with Ponyboy that a graphically beefed up, talking Pitt would be pretty ridiculous unless that tech was already in its second generation. I could totally see using a bit of camera tricks to increase the size of Pitt, and really I can't think of another actor who could use his emotive range to portray a god other than Pitt (he pretty much is one already). Nice to see you back Jarrod!

Drunken Vader Attacks Church Members - May 15, 2008 - 03:12pm
I laughed out loud when I read this. Only great things can happen when Star Wars is mixed with boxed wine. Good man Arwel Hughes! If someone's gonna start a Jedi church they had to have seen this coming. BANGED!

Book Review: SEAGALOGY - May 15, 2008 - 02:55pm
Haha, Mutant great one-liner. I take it you're not in competition for one of the Seagalogy copies? I gotta agree with you guys that Seagal was fantastic in his heydey, or as Vern describes it as in his Golden and Silver Eras. I'm taking Seagal over Chuck Norris, if for no other reason than I'm deeply annoyed by Norris' grassroots resurgence in popularity. The only thing worse than Chuck Norris jokes are the assholes that still propagate them. fft, snake, and monkey if you want to fire out your mailing addresses to PFerrara.mania@gmail.com we'll get these books out to ya.

DVD Shopping Bag: TWISTER, on the Small Screen - May 13, 2008 - 08:22am
Director Jan De Bont does great work. While completing my film degree at Pitt we deconstructed SPEED because, cinematography-wise, it was revolutionary for action films. What's he been up to recently? Twister was pretty cool and a hell of a lot better than Dante's Peak or Volcano.

Book Buzz: The Legacy of Star Wars Fiction - May 12, 2008 - 01:53pm
Hah, I just can't wait to see what happens with the Star Wars TV show. McCallum and Lucas have both stated that they plan on making a show that will eventually split into four concurrent series. That means four live-action Star Wars series running all at the same time in the near future. McCallum thinks even one Star Wars TV series has the ability to run for 400 episodes or longer, and this is where I'm worried about the direction of the show. Lucas plans on helping write and produce for the TV series... and that's good that he's not the only one in charge creatively. But taking some of the SW novels as episode source material is a great idea, but I can see Lucas being opposed to doing so because that would force him to recognize and honor that fiction. And hell, maybe even read some of it.

Paperback Review: Winterbirth - May 03, 2008 - 07:19pm
I hear you guys, hopefully the next wave of ads here at the site won't be so aggressive. Don't hold that against Ruckley's book though, it's one of the best fantasy openers I've read in years. Chirop check your profile wall when you get a chance.

IRON MAN - May 02, 2008 - 04:01pm
f'n a, didn't realize there was anything at the end of the credits.

IRON MAN - May 02, 2008 - 11:55am
Abbie I can't remember the last time I saw one of your reviews fall outside of the B grade range, but this was one of those movies you needed to take a stand on. Definitely an A.

Del Toro Talks About HOBBIT Films - Apr 28, 2008 - 10:05am
Very good point Monkeyfoot. A second "Hobbit" film can work because of the availability of source material and because of the amount of care the creators are taking with it. Having Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh on board is a great confidence booster, a lot of the scenes that made their way into the LOTR trilogy were taken from appendices, cross-references, and other historical tomes focused on Middle Earth. JRR had all the info down, and it's great to know that such talented hands will be converting that somewhat tricky source material into a coherent screen plot.

Asher's Back....in Polity Form - Apr 28, 2008 - 09:28am
I can't wait to see how this new TROLL movie plays out, especially with Rowling and WB's camp. Although it came before Rowling's Harry Potter series, I'm sure Warner Brothers will try to argue that the film is trying to take advantage of the specific similarities to J.K.'s universe to boost sales/popularity... which is pretty much what they are doing.

Mania Exclusive Interview: Winterbirth Author Brian Ruckley - Apr 28, 2008 - 09:20am
I totally know what you mean chirop, I felt the book's momentum picked up a lot near the middle, but the pacing was a little slow at the start. I really liked how he put a neutral POV in the opening prologue with The Hundred, and I think that theme carries throughout the book: showing the people caught in between not just as mere tools of a certain movement but as actual people with conflicting ideas and motives. And I actually think Jordan's WOT at one initial point was also supposed to be a trilogy, just goes to show you how writing can take over sometimes.

Potterverse Threatened - Apr 24, 2008 - 07:08pm
Todd I think that is probably the major issue here, control. The price for Harry Potter being so successful is losing a grip on every single thing that's connected with it. Think of how deeply entrenched HP already is in our culture. I can understand why Rowling wants to keep a hold on the reigns, but it just aint possible any longer.

Potterverse Threatened - Apr 21, 2008 - 07:16am
Exactly ronmilner and that's where the big question is with this trial. How many other references books have been made which divulge the intricacies of given fantasy or sci-fi franchises? Ponyboy I also think you're right that Vander Ark and Rowling are caught between two publishing powers, and Hanso do you really think a encyclopedia that has "J.K. ROWLING" stamped all over it would attract less buyers than a completely unofficial HP Guide?

Mania Exclusive Interview: Martial Arts Legend Jackie Chan - Apr 18, 2008 - 09:26pm

More on HULK and Norton Rumors - Apr 17, 2008 - 12:13pm
I'm glad someone else dug Ang Lee's HULK Sony and Azul, I can still remember how awesome those opening credits were (definitely reminded me of the opening creds in SEVEN with NIN playing in the background, real badass). As for gamma radiation, it's pretty well understood what it does to the human body azul; it dices up any and every small molecule, usually leading to missense coding in your DNA and resulting in cancer.

DreamWorks Grabs Rights for SHELL Manga - Apr 16, 2008 - 05:40pm
Indeed xavier; your comments are much more digestible with a healthy dose of white space in them, hah.

More on HULK and Norton Rumors - Apr 16, 2008 - 04:44pm
I'm glad to hear that Edward Norton wasn't the d-bag that all the rumors were making him out to be. He's a great actor and to hear that the division stands between Marvel and the creative team is much more comforting than thinking it was between Ed and Louis. A 2 hr and 15 min HULK movie sounds mighty fine to me.

Dresden Files: Small Favor - Apr 16, 2008 - 11:00am

Dresden Files: Small Favor - Apr 15, 2008 - 01:53pm
I've been having a lot of problems adding comments as well Pendragon, you're not the only one! I agree that these books would work great as TV miniseries. I think it is doable to translate a Dresden novel into one stand-alone movie, but it might be a tight fit.

Two Minutes of IRON MAN - Apr 13, 2008 - 07:26pm
I just don't think Raimi's goofiness meshes well with serious superhero stories. Albeit I did like the first Spiderman a lot (it was hands down the best of the three) but man did Raimi ladle on the camp after that. As for Iron Man, ooooweeee. You can bet me and my fluffy green friend will be cruisin before that flick. BOOYAH P.S. SONY you're the Pigformers guy right? Boy did that movie blow balls.

SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN, Vol. 2 - Apr 13, 2008 - 02:59pm

Thanks for that link scoundrel, goes to show you there are definitely at least two sides to every story. I'm beginning to think that the Brothers, though their hearts may be in the right place, just don't have the business savvy attitude to prevent overextending themselves.

Running the Property Dispute Gauntlet - Mar 31, 2008 - 10:11am
I've heard great things about Rothfuss' Kingkiller Chronicles, but also haven't had the chance to dig into it yet. Merin did you get to meet him at a booksigning event? Yea isgrimner I also saw that post that RJ was deeply dissatisfied with Red Eagle Entertainment, those guys are a bunch of hacks just trying to pimp out his material to make a quick buck. They were never in any way connected to the creative end, just a broker for any WoT-related merchandise. smeg I can understand what you're saying because, in terms of announced projects and actual completed projects, yeah the Dabels don't have a great track record with getting their proposed comics into print. But it seems like midway through a property the administrative end falls apart, and although Marvel may have dropped a bunch of money in the Dabels' lap to justify holding onto their distribution rights, it feels like they got undercut. I just hope their Dresden Files adaptation does well, Chris McGrath's cover art on the first issue looks pretty damn cool: http://www.jimbutcheronline.com/bb/index.php/topic,5945.0.html

BIOSHOCK MMO & Movie on Horizon? - Mar 27, 2008 - 06:01am
Hah good luck with that seesaw MrJaw, though if this news is in fact true, and not some short-sighted steam to keep shareholders content, it would be fantastic. BIOSHOCK really was one of the best games of the year (Merin you had mentioned in the Assassin's Creed review you're looking for a new game; if you haven't played yet this is it). "With the sweat from your brow, this could be your city too!" NO GODS OR KINGS, ONLY MEN

High Scale Theaters Coming Soon - Mar 26, 2008 - 07:33am
I'm in fft's camp. When I was in school out in Pittsburgh their Loew's Waterfront theatre (now an AMC but completely unchanged) had VIP seating in most of their auditoriums VIP seats were located in the middle-middle of the theatre on hardwood flooring, the leather seats were huge, and you had access to the theatre's full bar and restaurant menu...which you could take into the theatre. But best of all these VIP seats are lettered and numbered; you could arrive 10 minutes late on opening night of the biggest summer blockbuster and still have the best seats in the house. Then again these VIP tix still retail for only around $13-14, about $5 more than regular ticket prices. For big movies it was TOTALLY worth it. A $35 ticket tho, that is a bit too rich for this guy's blood.

THE DREAMING VOID - Mar 26, 2008 - 07:18am
I was thoroughly impressed by this novel, and therefore I can't in good conscience keep this book to myself. Whoever has a solid interest in reading this, and can tell me which series beat out The Lord of the Rings for the one-shot "Best All-Time Series" Hugo Award, will win my free hardback review copy of this novel. Arthur C. Clarke Passes Away at 90 - Mar 19, 2008 - 09:58am
He lived a long life, and his ideas will live an infinitely longer one. RIP

Star Trek: New Voyages and the Nebula Conundrum - Mar 18, 2008 - 11:03am
I've gotta agree sportwarrior, I tried watching it and it was more than a little painful, I couldn't get through it. The premise sounded interesting, kind of like a Tachyon Fringe-type plot that I remember an episode of TNG nailing, but their commitment to the original series is definitely their downfall. All they're doing is re-inventing the cheese factor, and not in a good way.

WIZARD'S First Rule Cleared for Raimi - Mar 17, 2008 - 12:33pm
I did enjoy Merlin a few years back, but yeah quality made-for-tv fantasy has been, well non-existent. Sanity HBO's been doin everything right so far with its original programming, and I'll take D.B. Weiss, David Benioff, and an R-rating any day over Sam Raimi. ASoIaF is gonna rock.

Star Trek: New Voyages and the Nebula Conundrum - Mar 17, 2008 - 12:28pm
Yeah, I agree with smeg that they probably wouldn't bankroll this fan series with the new reboot coming, but Paramount also can't alienate a large part of their Star Trek fan base. New Voyages and the Phase II projects have garnered a lot of fans, in particular those fans who love the original 1966 series. Putting Cawley on Trek XI was a great idea, but I'm glad as hell JJ is the one in the director's chair. "World Enough and Time" got on the Nebula ballot pretty much due to a technicality (the definition of 'professional'), but I think the copyright argument should focus only on the money-making bit.

Milch Lands New Cop Drama for HBO - Mar 17, 2008 - 08:57am
Damn mla i'll have to check out John Adams, it did look good.

WIZARD'S First Rule Cleared for Raimi - Mar 17, 2008 - 08:54am
yeah trust me jfdavis, this series will be plastered across the lineup moreso than even the old Kevin Sorbo Hercules when it comes out. I still can't believe Disney would invest so much into this series, have they even read the books yet??? I'll be happier when I hear A GAME OF THRONES is ready to shoot for HBO.

Hulu in Review - Mar 17, 2008 - 08:46am
I was able to sign up for the HULU beta and it is phenomenal (I no longer have to go to youtube to get my fix of Kitchen Nightmares). Stephen you did forget one huge event this week.... NEW FUTURAMA STARTS THIS WEEK ON COMEDY CENTRAL! 'BENDER'S BIG SCORE' AT 8 PM SUNDAY! THE FUTURE IS HERE! booyah

FUNNY GAMES - Mar 16, 2008 - 10:41pm
wow, I can't believe Michael Haneke would do a film like this. I haven't heard anything about Funny Games, but Cache, Haneke's 2005 Golden Palm-winning thriller, was really quite good at doing all the things this review says Funny Games lacked. But Cache did have one wicked on-screen suicide, and some very creepy imagery.

The Wire: End of an Era - Mar 10, 2008 - 02:39pm
Absolute I think a movie could do really well in the box office, but yeah, it'd have to take place in that time frame, i'd say 5 years later, or at least when Carcetti is still Governor. But I guess the plausibility of a movie now solely relies on DVD sales, I've already picked up season one.

The Wire: End of an Era - Mar 10, 2008 - 10:44am
I can't wait to see what David Simon and the other creators do next. If they made a Wire movie (which the finale pretty much was at an hour and a half), it would clean up in the awards category. Which is kind of paradoxical considering it hasn't even won an Emmy yet, and I thought they gave those things away like grammies.

GATTACA Special Edition - Mar 07, 2008 - 10:04am
Yea great flick, and Jude Law's character at the end... man, powerful imagery

STAR WARS DARTH BANE: Rule of Two - Mar 02, 2008 - 06:09pm
heh I just re-read these comments after someone recently banged the review and put it back up on the front page... metal I think you made a f'n fantastic point about the prequels and how they should have delt with the Army of Light storyline and Sideous as the last surviving Sith. Maybe it would mess up some of the universe's continuity, but it would have rooted Ep I in something truly monumental and awesome, the Battle between the Army of Light and the Brotherhood of Kaan. Throughout Episodes I-III we would see the Jedi's difficult evolution from warrior to peacekeeper, the reason why the Clone Army was instituted over implementing active Jedi fighters, and it would give a whole heck of a lot of realism to the conception of the Death Star (a necessary evil when the Battle btw Jedi and Sith is still fresh in the minds of people tired of war).

yeah good call beckham, viggo was the shit in Eastern Promises Edit: Also good call WhiteKnight on RotK, I'm a huge Rings fan but that painfully exaggerated ending in Return should have dashed any hopes of winnin an Oscar. And what about Titanic winning best visual effects over Starship Troopers??? SHAME ON YOU HOLLYWOOD!

And The Nominees Are... - Feb 25, 2008 - 10:35am
Well thanks for the heads up at least bear90, I hadn't heard of The Man From Earth until now, but I'll definitely have to check it out. Did you catch it in a theatre?

Live Action Akira & More Cosplay - Feb 22, 2008 - 07:20pm
Leonardo's the man, if they're gonna westernize Akira he'd be a great addition to class up the production.

The Show Must Go On - Feb 19, 2008 - 01:51pm
oh don't even joke about that mental, because i absolutely hate Uwe Boll (http://www.mania.com/56792.html).

High Def Trailer for Shyamalan's HAPPENING - Feb 19, 2008 - 01:45pm
Hah, I love the name game, and I completely agree with you Azul that the whole aliens thing in Signs was an asinine premise. That movie wasn't even sci-fi, it was just a shitty, vaguely religious movie under the guise of SF. I'm inclined to agree that M. Night Fallafalan is losin' his touch, though his cameo in last season of Entourage was pretty cool.

The Show Must Go On - Feb 18, 2008 - 08:32am
Oh and irascible if you haven't visited Martin's official site recently check out the Ice and Fire update, he put up another new chapter for ADwD early this past January (through the POV of Jon Snow) http://www.georgerrmartin.com/if-sample.html

The Show Must Go On - Feb 18, 2008 - 08:27am
I'm just interested to see how adult both Ice and Fire and Sword of Truth will be when they debut. For as much as I dislike Goodkind's writing, I've read all of the Truth books except the last two, and Epitome you're very right in saying they're definitely for grown-ups. I think Raimi would have done a fantastic job workin on an R-rated Truth translation, kind of like an Evil Dead / Army of Darkness.... but with higher production value and more serious. However, the fact that it's going on primetime cable worries me that a lot will get cut out or just glossed over. Now Ice and Fire going on HBO on the other hand... that could be f'n awesome. I'm glad both series went with the proper pacing route of making 22 episodes PER BOOK, which is the only way I can see a lot of these fantasy epics, Jordan's included, being translated for the screen at all.

Page & Murphy Thrill in PEACOCK - Feb 15, 2008 - 08:25am
I agree Wiseguy, I love Murphy but he shines best when Danny Boyle is behind the camera. BTW, I was kind of surprised that Mania didn't do a DVD review on SUNSHINE. Did anyone see it on here and I just missed it??

Movie Screenshot Trivia: Rd 1 - Feb 04, 2008 - 05:32pm
Wow, those are some tough-ass screenshots to identify

Star Trek and the Singularity - Feb 04, 2008 - 05:06pm
Hah nice Monty Burns reference Redshirt, there aint enough of those.

And the Desert Shall Bloom - Feb 03, 2008 - 02:04pm
Dick in a bagel

Cylons in America - Jan 28, 2008 - 08:19am
Hah, zing! Actually Sin even if there is no direct mention of Bush in the critical essays you're not far wrong. The show very clearly reflects the same issues the country faces since his administration took office, specifically in terms of international diplomacy, response to terrorism, the justification of torture, etc.

Ryan Gosling as JACK RYAN? - Jan 25, 2008 - 07:11am
Hanso, Lars & The Real Girl was a great film, and I can't believe Gosling didn't get an Oscar nod for his performance. Definitely check it out when it hits the shelves.

Update: Ledger's Autopsy Is Inconclusive - Jan 22, 2008 - 02:23pm
TERRIBLE, I'll drink one tonight for ya Heath. And damn you Olsen for being involved.

WB Launches 10,000 BC Site - Jan 21, 2008 - 07:19am
you guys bring up some good points, but despite the negative buzz this movie's being produced by Legendary Pictures. I'll definitely check it out for that reason alone.

The Side Project - Jan 21, 2008 - 07:15am
and Bran!

CLOVERFIELD - Jan 20, 2008 - 09:39am
Well said Merin

CLOVERFIELD - Jan 20, 2008 - 09:04am
wow king, and i'd tell them to do the opposite: you need to see this movie in a big theatre. Maybe this project is targeted for the under 30 generation. I work at a theatre and this sold out over the weekend, yet people were throwing up in the theatres. I never once got nauseous but I guess that's how some ppl react to the stimulus who aren't used to the style (as some earlier poster said the same perspective is akin to FPS games and other various reality TV shows). Cloverfield was the shit, and its uniqueness far surpassed any other film it's now being compared to. J.J.'s the man, can't wait for STAR TREK.

STAR WARS DARTH BANE: Rule of Two - Jan 18, 2008 - 09:51am
I think these past few comments illustrates the fact that in terms of Star Wars fans people fall in two camps. I, like ryanwareham, detested the prequel trilogy, but drumshine you make a wonderful point. I don't necessarily think the plot of Eps I-III were bad, but their execution was terrible. By trying to apply the same formula as the original trilogy, Lucas thought he could provide everything we fans loved about IV-VI only with a fresh storyline, but when you don't have solid enough acting (like Harrison Ford to anchor down the light-hearted humor) or roles that don't cater to the many strengths of the cast (Sam L. as Mace Windu? Jesus what a clusterfuck) then you get PM, AtoC, and RotS. But Cleric if you think that the SW fiction doesn't propel the universe or build upon Star Wars' diegetic realism (sometimes even more so than the films), you either haven't read enough or are too far up Lucas' ass to make an informed opinion on this topic.
