Keaton in Birdman

On set photos for a new film

This one could go either way. Having it star a Batman is something that makes it worth while to us here at Mania. In Birdman, Michael Keaton plays a former actor who is trying to start his career over again. Sadly, he is being haunted by his iconic portrayal of Birdman. As you can see by the photos this could be a literal haunting.

Synopsis: Birdman is a dark comedy that follows a former actor, who once played an iconic superhero, as he mounts a Broadway play based on a Raymond Carver short story in a bid to reclaim past glory. However, the play’s egotistical leading man threatens to throw everything down the tubes.

Is the film a dark comedy, a drama, or a superhero flick? Only time will tell. Birdman is scheduled for a 2014 release. It is directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (Babel, 21 Grams, and Biutful).

Birdman features Michael Keaton, Edward Norton, Emma Stone, Naomi Watts, Amy Ryan, and Zach Galifianakis.

I read about this a long time ago and thought it was a Harvey Birdman movie. I was excited. Not so much for this.

There is nothing I want to see more than Keaton get a shot at a comeback

They better do this right and give this iconic character the dignity he deserves! The costume looks perfect! It's just like the comic has come to life! Make him the dark, gritty crimefighter we all know and love!

He better be fighting his archnemesis The Talonhawk. A hero is never better then when he must battle against the villain who killed his whole family and took his fortune when he was a child and sent him on his lifelong mission to right wrongs.

I wonder who they've cast as his on again/off again lady love Stormy Dawn? They've got to get that right too! If this goes well its got to lead to his whole super team Wings Over The World, in the next movie! It will be the greatest superhero movie of all time with the greatest superhero ever!

Huh?.....What?..... This is all made up?......This isn't even a real superhero?.....

Never mind.

I guess they couldn't call it BATMAN and make it Keaton's real life story.

May check this

This looks interesting to me, but I fear it'll mostly be an inside joke for actors, many of whom will know this situation all too well.

Btw, they should have had Chris Anderson from the Heat play the Birdman dude.

That is a very cool looking super-suit!

They sure made Keaton look old and worn, or is that how he's really looking these days?

The director has made nothing but very serious films, so I find it hard to see this being a comedy, unless it's REAL dark.

I was hoping for a Birdman of Alcatraz remake, but it would be quite a stretch for Keaton to outdo Lancaster on that role.

I was hoping for a Birdman movie based on the toon myself.
