It seems that the alumni of HBO's ROME are branching out into top roles 7 months after the show left the airwaves. Stephanie Sanchez at IESB is reporting that actor Kevin McKidd (who portrayed Lucius Vorenus) is rumored to be in the top spot as the new THOR. This comes days after Matthew Vaughn was tapped to direct the adaptation of the comic series and a few weeks after his co-star, Ray Stevenson (who portrayed friend Titus Pullo), was grabbed as the new PUNISHER. Scribe Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend) inked the script.

No confirmation has been given yet.

Thanks goes to Maniac scooper, "jon41380", for passing this bit of juicy news along..

ALthough I don't see McKidd as bulky enough for Thor, he's a great actor. I can't wait to see "Journeyman" on NBC thihs fall.

I agree that he's a great actor. LOVED "Rome". He's not quite big/built enough, but you never know...remember what Linda Hamilton did for "T2"? If the money is right, I'm willing to bet he'll put in the work to look the part.

McKidd was great in Rome, but I just don`t see him as Thor. I could possibly see him as say, Donald Blake, but not the actual Asgardian god of Thunder. He is way too small. Strangely enough I always pictured Brad Pitt as Donald Blake. I still say my man, from 13th Warrior would be perfect.

Well in comics everything is bigger, prettier, campy...this would be a more realistic touch to ground the movie if that is the direction they are going for. I hope this is set in Asgard and not Midgard "Earth".

THE GOD OF THUNDER "MIGHTY THOR" LOL. Grow his hair longer , slap that red cape and give this guy the hammer. He looks great for the part !

Its a comic book movie. If they want some "regular" guy, do another Marvel character. Thor is the freakin God of Thunder! It should be a little over the top, "bigger, prettier". If you`re not going to make Thor, Thor, then why bother? I just don`t get the "it should be more realistic comments" I understand that it should look more realistic, but how the hell do you make a guy carrying a huge hammer that shoots lightning bolts grounded in reality? This movie is not like Batman Begins. Just the fact that its about the Asgard god of Thunder yells fantastical. As long as its not done, campy or cheesy, it should be kept in that larger than life vein of the comic, and not dulled down so people with only half a brain can "get it".

I'd like to see someone with a stronger/larger physical presence, but this guy was great in Rome and Kingdom of Heaven, too. I know what we're all used to seeing in the comic books, but this could work. I'm sure he'll bulk up somewhat for the role, but the most important part is his attitude. Playing Vorenus showed that McKidd can play physical roles.

GREAT CHOICE. The guy has acting chops and has brooding down to an art. I think he would be a great actor for the role. As far as "bulking up"...if Will Smith and Ed Norton can do it...so can this guy. And, I might add, he is in pretty good shape as it is. And, "yes", they will go for a more realistic approach. This is one franchise that needs it. Otherwise it will be laughably silly.

Am I the only one who's noticed all that's missing in that picture of Mr. McKidd is a little metal helmet with wings on the sides? Chain mail, check. Leather, check. Red cape, check...

McKidd can pull this off. He can act and he's a badass, a buding action star in his infancy. If they can make Sean Astin appear to be three feet tall standing next to 6' Ian McKellan in LotR then they can make McKidd look like the Thunderer. He can play both Thor and Donald Blake. No problem.
