Young Dave Lizewski's costumed adventures as his new alter ego Kick-Ass have brought him some fame and some adventure in his hum-drum life as just another boring kid in his boring life. Already discovering that he's not alone by putting on a costume and patrolling the streets, he's met several other people doing the same thing; the most formidable of which coming in the guise of Big Daddy and Hit-Girl. As a father and daughter team, Big Daddy and Hit-Girl are as intimidating as they are bloodily efficient with their war on crime and now they've asked Kick-Ass to work with them. Well, asking might not entirely be the best word to use when describing their request. Serving as an origin issue for Big Daddy and Hit-Girl, Kick-Ass #6 also creates quite a new bind for Dave to find himself in.

The Good

With this only being the sixth issue of the series, Millar and Romita Jr. have already blown the doors off of their ride and now soundly tear the roof off of it as well. This is the best issue yet and the story behind Big Daddy and Hit-Girl is logically dysfunctional and still shamelessly entertaining. That's the appeal of the series as a whole; testosterone indulgence tempered by solid enough writing and excellent artwork. Large amounts of fun and still sporting a $2.99 price tag, even with sketch pages included at the end! Not a lot to bitch about here.

The Bad

Like I just said, not a lot to bitch about here. People that don't care for profanity and gratuitous violence presented in a very graphic manner should steer clear though. Kick-Ass isn't for everyone.

The Prognosis

I'm officially entertained as hell with this book. I thought that it's been good, and even though I originally thought that it wasn't exactly taking any risks with the tried and true formula of giving comic dorks some swearing and violence, Millar is still making it a solidly entertaining story. Is it a guilty pleasure? Somewhat, but the quality is still higher than most books that try to follow that formula. Millar and Romita Jr. are working in perfect bloody tandem while still delivering characters that are just fun to read. Very impressed with the fact that this serves as an origin story and yet doesn't take a time-out to do so. The main storyline goes straight on ahead and even throws in some major predicaments for our awkward young hero, including an ending that had the phrase "Oh shit!" going through my head. I'm giving this an A for simply being great entertainment and the fact that John Romita Jr's artwork is flawless and, most importantly, this may not be the one trick pony I was prepared to label the series as.

This issue was f___ing sweet! I saw it coming and loved the ending! Perfect. I know the movie won't be as good as this but I still have hope!

The movie could probably go either way, I'm not really that eager to see it as of right now, but that very well might change when the trailer comes out.

I never saw the ending coming, tottally took me off guard as it did Kickass. Love this book...so cool and different from anything I'm reading!

Make mine Millar!

The only bad about Kickass movie is , sometimes things leak about the movie that havent been in the comic yet. I hope the comic finishes before the movie comes out.

I've been paranoid about that as well, gauleyboy, it will totally suck if the movie finishes the story before the book does.

For instance,

yesterday there was a pic of Red Mist, and the description of him said " ...son of a mobster...inspired by  blah blah.

I had no Idea he was the son of a mob boss. Did I miss something in a previous issue? And if I hadn't already read issue #6 I would be pissed that things are being revealed that would spoil the story. Even though it doesn't spell it out, to say Red mist is the son of a Mobster, kinda could ruin the surprise.

Maybe the pwoers that be at mania can report more carefully on the Kickass movie...OR Millar can get that shit out faster!!!

And on the subject of Millar, WHERE THE HELL IS WAR HEROES ??!!!! when is the next issue coming out???

The issue was great but way to short considering how irregularly the series comes out. I'm worried that I will see the end of the series in movie form before I pick up the last issue.
