Sam Kieth, creator of THE MAXX, will be scripting Ashley Wood's new ongoing POPBOT series.
POPBOT is Wood's second publication from San Diego-based publisher and creative service company, Idea + Design Works. His first was the hardcover art book, UNO FANTA: THE ART OF ASHLEY WOOD.
"I've always loved Ash's art, and we've been wanting to jam on something for a while," Kieth says. "After checking out UNO FANTA, I was even more inspired. For POPBOT, Ash already has the story basically worked out, so I'll be helping out a lot with dialogue, much as Bill Loebs used to do for me on THE MAXX. Cats, robots and underage sex pretty much hooked me in."
"His handling of characters is always sharp and greatly enhances their believability," Wood says.
Wood described the series:
"POPBOT is a heady mix of JACOB'S LADDER and Fritz The Cat with a side serving of David Lynch weird-ass salad," he says. "It's a tale of a cat that was once a universally famous rock star, his career is now in the toilet and he has incurred mythical sized debts with many and varying parties of bent nosed characters of questionable morals."
