Great article...glad to have both you and Lost back...

Couple of thoughts:

1) The Donnie Darko Director's Cut just became required watching. I think its like a codex for this season. Watch it with the commentary track on if you haven't already...It offers LOTS of serious theories about time travel and its potential to create a tangenital timeline. Also, Kevin Smith is one of the commentators and thats just cool.

2) Numerous references to Apocalypse Now in the premiere. The Lost temple looks suspiciously like the Cambodian Temple in that film. Also, the nervous little translator dude seemed to be channeling Dennis Hopper both in appearance and mannorisms. And finally, during Flocke's bit about "the saddest thing you ever heard," his face kept moving into and out of the shadows and he kept touching his big bald noggin ala Brando...

Just thinking...

they should re-release Boogie Nights in 3D.

Dont wanna see remakes? Great! Dont see them. I totally respect that. Why piss on them though? I dont like westerns, but I dont think they should stop being made.

All art is now just a collection of variations on a handful of different themes. There's no such thing as real originallity anymore, so why eliminate previous films as source material. And who said they ruin the originals? Did they destroy all existing copies of the original? No? Well the original is still there for us to enjoy then, right?

Im all for judging every film I see based on its own merits. I personally liked this film (mostly...it had HUGE flaws) and think that having it branded as a "Halloween" film did it a huge disservice. Read back thru this comment thread. 75% of these complaints would not exist if this movie was called anything but "Halloween."

I just think its awfully small minded and dismissive to say "all of X thing is bad." Really? Have you seen all of X thing? No? than lets discuss what you have seen and why it was good/bad/indifferent.
