Marvel has released the official news that Vincent D’Onofrio has been cast in the Daredevil Netflix series. D’Onofrio will play Wilson Fisk the Kingpin of New York and arch nemesis to Daredevil (Charlie Cox). The 13 episode series is set to premiere in 2015. Here is the official announcement from Marvel.

Press Release: Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce that acclaimed actor Vincent D’Onofrio has joined “Marvel’s Daredevil,” an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015. Best known for his critically-lauded work in “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” “Men in Black, “Full Metal Jacket” and “Homicide,”  D’Onofrio will play Wilson Fisk, a powerful businessman whose interests in the future of Hell’s Kitchen will bring him into conflict with the blind attorney Matt Murdock and his alter ego Daredevil.

D’Onofrio joins Charlie Cox, previously announced as Matt Murdock, in the exciting cast of “Marvel’s Daredevil.”

“We’re incredibly proud to have an actor with the gravitas and versatility of Vincent joining 'Marvel’s Daredevil' in such an integral role,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “Wilson Fisk is an iconic villain whose cunning and power make him the dangerous equal of our hero."

Synopsis: Marvel’s Daredevil” follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell's Kitchen, New York City.

I first I didn't recoginze the name and checked him out. Once I saw him I knew who he was. He is tallented, but not a large man. I expected they were going to find someone in the Michael Clarke Duncan size department. So body suit or CGI?

monkeyfoot 6/11/2014 7:57:35 AM

He is not the actor I would have expected but once I thought about it he is just right. Even when he plays a good guy he has a spooky, imposing, and powerful presence. He gives the vibe of somebody you don't want to mess with. He is a tall and big guy but he is doesn't have a wrestler type physique. They may have decided not make him a physical threat to DD in the version. At least not in the way that Michael Clarke Duncan was.

I rememeber John Rhys-Davies played the Kingpin in one of the 80s Incredible Hulk TV movies that they were trying to spinoff into a Daredevil TV show. Rex Smith played Matt Murdock.

he sort of played thor...he was the mechanic in adventures in babysitting

VioLatorr 6/11/2014 8:26:16 AM

Ya, he'll do. Wait so is this a Marvel project? I thought DD was with Fox?

monkeyfoot 6/11/2014 8:35:48 AM

Violatorr, Fox failed to start a new movie before their rights ended so it went back to Marvel. At first Kevin Feige at Marvel said they had no plans for him because he didn't fit into their long range movie plans. Then suddenly the Marvel/Netflix deal showed up. Netflix will run shows for Power Man, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, and DD which will culminate in The Defenders, a team-up movie of all of them.

Great casting! He has the size presence and can be very intimidating. He was great as the villian in The Cell ( cant say that much about the movie) all in all good choice.

In the comics, despite his size King Pin has always prided himself on being a skilled hand to hand combatant. That aspect of the character is essential so I can't believe it wouldn't be part of the character in the series.

Violatorr, you must be kidding.

We'ren't you around when we had a discussion of the rights going back after Joe Carnahan walked out at the last minute. Rumours in Hollywood were coming out that Fox asked Marvel to extend the rights since they had a great thing in mind and Marvel said sure, we'll do it, but give us the rights to Silver Surfer and Galactus and Fox said no (probably when this whole Marvel vs Fox thing started to heat up as well.

As for the casting. Great actor. I was always thinking of a big wrestler type but this guy is intimidating. A nice pic via Google Images of Vincent D'Onofrio bald. He's wearing a nice outfit at the back of a limo. Not sure for which show or movie but it looks very Kingpin to me.

Ya i remember. I just like to hear people tell me that Fox gave up rights to one of their Marvel characters...  =)
