Two more actors are locked in for the adaptation of the best selling Ubisoft videogame Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, reports Variety. Thespians Ben Kingsley and Alfred Molina are joining leading cast members Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton in the Disney production. Famed producer Jerry Bruckheimer is overseeing production while Mike Newell (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) is set to direct, based on a screenplay by Doug Miro, Carlo Bernard, Jordan Mechner and Boaz Yakin. Production is scheduled to begin in July in the U.K. and Morocco.

Plot Summary: In the fantasy adventure based on Ubisoft's popular video game, Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world. Molina will play Sheik Amar, who becomes a mentor to the prince. No word yet on who Kingsley plays.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time will hit theaters July 19, 2009.

Ben Kingsley joining the cast is like the kiss of death to any movie. Good luck, you'll need it.

On the other hand, Alfred Molina joined at the same time. Maybe the two will cancel each other out.

Also, don't forget, Kingsley has been nominated for an Oscar 4 times, and won 1 time. He just has trouble choosing his genre material. As many bad movies as he's been in, he's bound to choose a good one eventually. Hopefully, this will be it.

I don't think they cancelled each other out in Species. But then both were pretty much wasted in it so what the hell.
Agree that Kingsley has trouble choosing genre material which is disappointing because he can be so brilliant. But also in part agree with Wiseguy...I'm getting a different feeling about this movie now he's in it.

you are getting a bad vibe cause Kingsley is in it? that's the least of this flick's problem. The main one is casting Jake as the Prince!! He ain't a bad actor but he ain't no Prince of Persial.

God of WAr where you at!!!!!!?? Someone make the flick please!

Gyllenhaal actually does bear some some resemblance to the Prince from Sands of Time. I hate to give a genetics lecture again, but a thousand years ago, physical traits in that region weren't exactly like they are today. Get that dude into the gym, get him a tan, and he should be fine. The Prince's eyes were blue, so that's not a problem either. It would have been nice if they found an actor from the region to play the role, especially since those guys are unfortunately relegated to playing extremist roles on 24 and the like, but then again we're lucky they didn't go with Orlando Bloom or something.
