Kooky & Creepy ADDAMS Head to Broadway

Charles Addams' THE ADDAMS FAMILY is headed to broadway for the 2009 - 2010 season at the Rialto.

The play will be based on the cartoons and not the various TV shows and movies produced from them. The cartoons, which ran in the New Yorker, centered on a ghoulish family whose members include father Gomez, mother Morticia, uncle Fester and daughter Wednesday.

Andrew Lippa will write the songs. Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice will write the book. Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch will design and direct the production.

This is perfect for a Broadway musical. I'm not a theatre-goer but with Addams' eerie imagery and quirky characters this would be fantastic. I'm kind of surprised no one thought of it before.
I guess there won't be a Thing. He was created for the TV show.

Few ideas have every made as much sense as "Adams Family: The Musical". It just screams "Rocky Horror", "Sweeny Todd", "Reefer Madness", and "Batboy". I now can't wait.

And Thing's definately going to be in it. He'd better have a solo.

...just make sure they don't try it with "The Munsters".
