Director Joseph Kosinski's resume continues to grow according to the Hollywood Reporter. Just last month, Warner Bros hired on the director to lead the upcoming remake of LOGAN'S RUN. Now, the trade is reporting he has also signed on the dotted line for TRON by Disney. At one time,  this project was believed to be a remake of the 1982 cult classic but Disney is describing this as "the next chapter". Perhaps, Disney will clarify a bit more since the title for this project is still called "Tron". Steven Lisberger, who co-wrote and directed the original film, will help produce this next installment in the series. He's also working on another femme styled film set in the universe, SOUL CODE, which was spawned at a Tron convention while meeting freelance journalist Jessica Chobot. Sean Bailey will also be helping as producer via Live Planet productions.

While no plot concept has been given yet, the original centered on a computer programmer transferred into a computer and forced to do battle in games he created.

Are they actually going to make Logan's Run? It seems like the Logan's Run remake is as real as Sanctuary.

Tron is back!!! For years I've been encouraging Disney to bring it back via net posts (see my Soul Code posting where I talked about a Tron sequel in detail--A posting I made just several days ago), so it is great to see some execs have wised up and finally greenlit the project!!!

The sequel was supposed to be about Jeff Bridges character turning into a despot like Brando in Apocalypes Now. Forced to confront him, another programmer enters the world of Tron to stop him!!!

As I have written before, Brad Byrd and Pixar should be doing the Tron sequel. Pixar has always wanted to do a big live action film, and a movie like this would serve to combine all of their talents for what would result in something pretty great. Success or failure, this film will make a ton of money for Disney through product licensing tie-ins like toys, video games and what not, plus the obvious revenue from DVDs...and Cable, Satellite, Pay-Per-View and Broadcast TV after markets.

For the most successful chance at block buster status, this film should be shot in 3-D!!!

PS--This would be a perfect opportunity for Zac Efron to take a starring role...and perhaps a box office draw like Johnny Depp to be cast as a co-star!!!

Check out a video of Tron on Jessica Chobot's MySpace page...set to the music of Depeche Mode.

No. No no no no!!! WHY?!?!? First, it's a remake of Logan's Run news that upsets me. Now we find out that Follywood is making a sequel to TRON?!?!? What the hell is wrong with Follywood? They already HAVE a "sequel", and it was brilliant! Tron 2.0 for the PC! Excellent story. Fantastic visuals. And since it is a GAME, it put YOU right into the action! This is pathetic! Why can't Follywood come up with ORIGINAL IDEAS anymore? They suck. This will suck. And the Logan's Run remake will SUCK. LEAVE THE CLASSICS ALONE!!! DAMNIT!!!

I love this idea.... Tron is definately a story worth continuing, and while I do not totally agree that posting influenced the decision that strongly... it is a cool coincidence how we were just talking about this the other day and here it is. I am glad it is a sequel and not a remake, because it is so easy to explain the leaps and bounds the visuals will take... as the tech advanced so did the Tron world....
One other thing... Hollywood is going to have ramakes and sequels... they have been their since silent films... this is not a new deal... the earliest films were remakes of plays and stage productions, and if your going to bitch about it EVERY SINGLE DAY, ON EVERY SINGLE POST THAT HAS SEQUEL, PREQUEL, OR REMAKE IN THE TITLE< at least have an argument other than "It will suck"... Why can't they leave it alone.... Jesus, it actually is starting to sound like about 15 to 20 of you guys are the same guy posting under different IDs... which I know is not true, but that is how friggin repetative and recycled this debate is becoming... Some of the remakes suck, some are cool... same with sequels... but saying that anything is going to suck based only on the fact that is not completely original is becoming..... well... unoriginal.

I would love them to make the "Tron 2.0" video game into the sequel to the original movie; it in itself is basically already a sequel to the original movie...but a video game instead.

Hey, I posted days ago about my idea for "ESCAPE TO SPACE MOUNTAIN" & "ESCAPE FROM SPACE MOUNTAIN". Where's my greenlight, Disney?! As for the ongoing sequel/remake argument, I'm putting my vote in for the "needs to stop" campaign. I like the idea of sequels if there is a good enough story to warrant it, but the remakes we don't not need. Yes, the new "3:10 to Yuma" is a solid movie, but I think an original Western storyline would have been just as good with the exact same team. Why the need for a remake? And don't get me started on the rumors for an "Enter The Dragon" remake...

I'd like to see a sequel to this movie, too, but they might have waited a little too long. It's been twenty five years since the first one came out. It's not like the Spider-Man or X-Men movies. That's a pretty long time, but I've been of fan of the first movie since before I could complain and rant and rave. And besides, this sequel probably won't be aimed at us fans who grew up in the eighties watching it. It'll be for the younger kids who've never even heard of Tron.

I love the original Logan's Run movie, but the new one is supposed to be more like the book. I'm looking forward to it. Same sort of theme, different take on distopia. Remakes can actually be very good. For instance, I prefer the 1978 Body Snatchers to the 1950's original.

I wasn't a big Tron fan, but then I wasn't a videogame playing boy when it first came out. My husband will be happy about the sequel.
