Kring Apologizes to HEROES Fans

Tim Kring, creator of HEROES, has given some candid interviews to Entertainment Weekly and TV Guide where he discusses problems with Season 2 so far and what we can expect from the future of the show. He also apologizes to the fans who may not have liked the beginning of this second season. While talking to Entertainment Weekly, he touched upon a few subjects...

THE PACE IS TOO SLOW ''We assumed the audience wanted season 1 — a buildup of intrigue about these characters and the discovery of their powers. We taught [them] to expect a certain kind of storytelling. They wanted adrenaline. We made a mistake.''

THE WORLD-SAVING STAKES SHOULD HAVE BEEN ESTABLISHED SOONER The premonition of nuclear apocalypse created a larger context that unified every story line last season. Kring now sees that Volume 2 (the first 11 episodes of season 2) would have been better served if Peter's vision of viral Armageddon had appeared in the season premiere rather than episode 7. ''We took too long to get to the big-picture story,'' he says.

THE ROOKIES DIDN'T GREET THEMSELVES PROPERLY New Heroes Monica (Dana Davis), Maya (Dania Ramirez), and Alejandro (Shalim Ortiz) ''shouldn't have been introduced in separate story lines that felt unattached to the show. The way we introduced Elle (Kristen Bell) — by weaving her in via Peter's story line — is a more logical way to bring new characters into the show.'' (That said, Kring says a few newbies won't make it beyond this second volume, which wraps Dec. 3.)

Mr. Kring,
I hope you read this feedback,
NO NEED TO APOLOGIZE! I love season 2. I love the build up, and the payoff. The suspense and pacing is what makes me crave for more after the end credits roll. PLEASE PLEASE, don't listen to everyone who has attention deficit disorder. NOT EVERYONE wants, an action show.with no story. If they were looking for that, The Bionic Woman is on Wednesdays.
The last episode made everything that happened worth while, AND the building of a quality story has set the stage for an epic season. I loved th feudal japan storyline, and loved it more after Adam was revealed to be Kensei. If the suspense hadn't been done properly (AS YOU DID IT) the last episode wouldn't have meant SH*T!
They way the twins are interacting an d have been introduced as a devise to bring Sylar back to NYC IS SWEET. I am yelling at the TV every time I see Sylar "F YOU SYLAR" you have me and my girlfriend talking to the characters like they will be able to heed our warnings about Sylar.
PLEASE DON'T LISTEN TO THE MAINSTREAM PUBLIC WITH NO ATTENTION SPAN. REMEMBER THE PUBLIC PUT BUSH IN THE WHITE HOUSE THEY ARE NOT ALWAYS RIGHT.
I"M A FAN AND I DON'T WANT ANYTHING TO CHANGE
I GIVE SEASON 2 an A+++++++++++++

I have absolutely no complaints about how season 2 has unfolded. As Mr Kring said, season 1 had a long steady build up of suspense with some nice small character moments. Don't give in too much to those who want to change the "feel" of the show. Heroes may be thematically like the X-Men, but its difference is what makes it better.

Mr. Kring,

As I am one of the "public" who helped to put Mr. Bush in office, I feel the need to speak out on behalf of my bretheren and say that we too appreciate your build-up this season.

I think it more appropriate to ask you not to yield to the fanboys, who feel that "if it isn't The Empire Strikes Back or BSG it's crap".

Please continue with your creation and development of some of the best characters in genre television and tell the story YOU want to tell, not what you think certain demographics want to see. It was that type of forward thinking and storytelling that gave us season 1, and I eagerly anticipate your future installments with the program.
Thank you.

I agree with all of the posting's that are here...there's no need to apologize for a show that is doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing...

As much as I enjoy some of the comic book movies, this isn't the way Heroes is supposed to go...in fact it's doing exactly what it needs to do...

The general public wants an X Men type of show, then go watch X Men.

I have to commend him though for being sensitive to those who watch his show, and that makes me feel very good to follow a show and a creator of one that really wants to please his viewers, but he's not going to please everyone....

I'm in the other column... I feel there is too much going on that can not be satisfyingly focused on in 1 hour, the stories in some cases are a mess, Peter for instance, why overcomplicate things with this memory loss bs, just bring him back and let him fly... I for one have found it difficult to stay interested this season... I am not looking for Xmen, but if you don't want others to look for it than stop the legacy virus story line.

A+++++++++++
That last episode was fantastic and here in New York we are all going to go give shout outs to Hayden and Kristen at the Big Apple Con this month!
Don't apologize- the fans love Heroes. We just wish the strike was over so that we can get the full season and not the modified one.

It's refreshing that creator of a hit show knows he was doing somthing wrong creatively. He is absolutely right. The first few episodes of this season have been boring and slow moving. Hiro's adventure in medevial Japan took too long. New characters were awkwardly introduced and took too much time away from the established characters. This week's episode showed there's hope that Heroes can get back on track.

I didn't think there was anything wrong with the Season 2 buildup; I expected it after watching Season 1 unwind throughout the season. I like Monica and Elle's introduction, but don't care much for the Mexican characters' storyline. I'm sure once they make it to New York with Sylar, their storyline will be better. I've enjoyed the season thus far, but it's nice to see Kring acknowledge the fans and their feelings/thoughts.

seriously?! i REALLY enjoyed season one. i REALLY enjoy good story arcs. the problem w/the stories in season two so far (other than parkman/mohinder/molly) is that there's been no ARC. cheerleader has prohibited relationship w/creep, flatlined. hiro in the past, telling non-stories through scrolls, flatline. peter's story has been OK at best. my favorite addition has been the twins-- they only should have been traveling for an episode or two though, tops.

I don't need x-men. i don't need all action. i do need SUSPENSE though if that's what i'm told i'm getting. season one we were introduced to lots of new characters, we needed time to develop them. BUT, now we've got 'em, lets have 'em do something!

Mr. Kring (as if you're here)-- I, for one, appreciate the apology. you hit on EVERY reservation I had for season 2. thanks for being aware of your fans thoughts and constructive criticisms.

I just started watching Heroes this season. As a newbie to the show, I'm happy for the individual storylines, as it's made it easy to get to know the characters gradually.

However, I can see why Kring feels the need to apologize - the last two episodes have been the lowest-rated of the entire series. The show seems to be bleeding viewers like Lost at the beginning of last season.
