The DVD shopping bag keeps getting heavier and heavier as the list of new releases and special editions keeps growing. The Ultimate Edition of the ‘Battleship Potemkin’ is definitely in the bag. Sergei M. Eisenstein’s film is a must have and this two disc set is a film lovers necessity. Yet, any true child of the Eighties or superhero fan cannot miss ‘The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians’ DVD. The adventures of the “Superfriends” were never better than they were in this series. ‘Young Indiana Jones Chronicles Volume 1’ finally arrives on DVD in time to start the frenzy for Indiana Jones products, so in the bag it must go. I would love to throw the ‘Saw Trilogy’ in the bag but knowing that ‘Saw IV’ hits the theaters at the end of the week and ‘Saw V’ is probably in the works, I think I can wait on that one.
Agree with me or not on my choices for this week but there is one must have and that is the new two disc special editions of Stanley Kubrick’s films from Warner Brothers. Now not every Stanley Kubrick film is included in the series but that is inconsequential because many of them are have special editions released already or have special editions that come out to day as well. So, here is the chance to get all new digital transfers with two discs full of special features and commentaries. Unfortunately, Kubrick never commented on his films, but many of his cast and crew have come together to make sure that his legacy of films will live on forever. This box set is essential. All right, maybe ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ is not essential but you cannot deny the other films in this incredible collection.
