There are lots of quotes from Kurt Russell floating around the internet in regards to his thoughts on the upcoming remake of Escape From New York. The remake is set to star Gerard Butler in the role of Snake Plissken, a role originated by Russell.
From Entertainment Weekly:
"I will say that when I was told who was going to play Snake Plissken, my initial reaction was, 'Oh, man!' [winces] I do think that character was quintessentially one thing. And that is, American."
"People come up to me and say, 'You played Snake Plissken.' I didn't play Snake Plissken. I created him!"
Asked if he'd do a cameo: "F--k that! I am Snake Plissken! It's like Sean Connery always watching someone else do their version of Bond."
Then later, from Sci Fi Wire:
"Oh, I don't know, I was just kidding around," Russell said later.
"Listen, I've had a long career, I'm only happy to have had it. Good luck to everybody, and, yeah, see if you can keep up, cool."
KJ's Take: Oh brother. I'm sick of all this 'Escape' talk. So it's a remake, get over it, Hollywood remakes everything now a days. Don't like it? Don't see it.
As for Kurt, Butler is a great actor, I think the way he talked about him is a disrespectful rant from a washed up fading star.

You tell 'em Kurt!!!! The Remake is WRONG! And Snake is AMERICAN! I had a hard enough time with Bales as Batman. I mean what if they had Paul Walker as James Bond? Chris Evans as Bond or George Clooney?
KJ, what you said is disrespectful.
