I saw an episode of "Dark Matters" on the Science Channel that talked about one man's plan to release thousands of bats with bombs attached to them over Japan during WW2.  Interesting and amusing stuff.

Another planfrom WW1 involved using a mooked up U-boat with food on top to train 'seagulls' to swarm around it and and so when they saw a real U-boat they would flock around it and the defence forces could investigate and sink the craft. You see this behaviour when seabirds follow fishing boats hoping for easy pickings.

All in all a clever plan but with one draw back. The birds couldn't tell the difference between Allied and German craft.
