This is excellent news: Visible Ink Press has just unleashed upon us a great new project from that legendary master of the macabre himself, Brad Steiger. Of course, the surfacing of the books right now is perfect: it’s just in time for Halloween!
Titled Real Nightmares: True and Truly Scary Unexplained Phenomena, it's a monthly series of e-books that cover a wide and varied range of topics of a paranormal and supernatural nature, such as ghosts, ghouls, UFOs, vampires, zombies, the occult, and much more, too.
And, the very good news for those of you who are into strange creatures and vile beasts of the night: well, you are in for a full-on treat, too. I have now read the first two editions of Real Nightmares, and I can say for sure that you most certainly will not be disappointed by the dark and mysterious tales their equally dark and mysterious pages reveal.
Interested in stories of monstrous werewolves on the loose? Then look no further than Brad’s uncanny tale of the Dwayyo, a bizarre and unsettling entity that haunts the dark shadows of West Middletown, Maryland.
If you’re on tracking down a real-life equivalent of the hairy man-beasts of The Wolfman, Underworld, An American Werewolf in London, and The Howling, well, look no further. The curious saga of the Dwayyo skillfully demonstrates that the diabolical werewolf of Hollywood, of legend, of folklore, and of mythology, may not be so fantasy-driven, after all. Such savage creatures of the full-Moon may really be lurking amongst us.
Brad also treats us to the mystery of the Nantiinaq – a Bigfoot-style ape-man that terrorized the good folk of a certain Alaskan town way back in the 1930s. The account of the monster – whose name translates to “Big Hairy Creature” – will particularly appeal to those of you looking to learn more about the early years of Sasquatch-style activity in the United States.
Indeed, there is a tendency on the part of many people to assume that Bigfoot is merely a creature of modern-day popular culture. Dead wrong: the name, Bigfoot, is most certainly a relatively recent one. It dates back only to the 1950s. But, as Brad shows, the creatures themselves have been with us for far longer than that.
If snakes are your thing, then check out the mystery-filled and enigmatic story of the giant, sacred rattlesnake of Montezuma, a story that straddles cryptozoology, ancient legend, and Indiana Jones-style high-adventure. Then, there’s the revelations concerning the dreaded Reptilians – green, scaly, man-beasts that might just prove to be your worst nightmare ever.
And this is just the tip of a terrific iceberg of horror-driven proportions. If you want to entertain yourself this Halloween – or, indeed, at any time – with astounding tales of horror, terror, and unearthly entities that seem intent on tormenting us, the Human Race, whenever and wherever possible, then Brad Steiger’s Real Nightmares: True and Truly Scary Unexplained Phenomena is a series I most definitely recommend you get your teeth into.
And – as I mentioned above – given that the series is produced in e-book format, you can go online and purchase, download and read the books (from all good outlets: Amazon, Barnes & Noble etc – and, of course, from Visible Ink Press, too) very quickly. Give you, your friends, and family a terror-driven treat this Halloween! And the very good news is that Real Nightmares is an ongoing series. In other words, Brad Steiger’s terror-driven tales are not going away anytime soon.
Nick Redfern is the author of many books, including Keep Out!, which is published in December.
