With just three days to go before Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance rides into 3D theaters, Columbia Pictures and Apple iTunes have revealed a last minute look into behind-the-scene action. Check it out below or in HD Quicktime here. The supernatural adventure stars Nicolas Cage, Fergus Riordan, Ciaran Hinds, Violante Placido, Idris Elba and Johnny Whitworth. Co-directors Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine led the production from a screenplay by David S. Goyer, Scott M. Gimple and Seth Hoffman.

Plot Concept: Nicolas Cage reprises his role as Johnny Blaze in "Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance." In this gritty new vision for the character, directed by Neveldine/Taylor ("Crank"), Johnny is still struggling with his curse as the devil’s bounty hunter - but he may risk everything as he teams up with the leader of a group of rebel monks (Idris Elba) to save a young boy from the devil... and possibly rid himself of his curse forever.

After Marvel sued Gary Friedrich (Ghost Rider's creator) for making money off of Ghost Rider prints at conventions, I've decided not to give Marvel my money for this soon-to-be-travesty of a movie. Also, since Marvel still owes Friedrich for the first movie (since the GR rights reverted back to him in 2001), but weaseled out of it by putting contract language on paychecks, I may just bail on Marvel comics altogether. I've already done it to DC (mainly because they put out crap).

It looks like a badass ride!!!

It is true that Mavel successfully sued Friedrich, but it was a counter-suit to his original suit.  While the ruling is that he owes Marvel $17,000 there is no indication that Marvel is going to make any attempt to actually collect the money.  The contracts Marvel used in the 70's were pretty awful, no doubt there.  This practice was done by the orignal owners though, the ones who ran the company into the ground in the mid 90's by trying to expand into toys and trading cards.  The current owners are the ones who rescued Marvel from bankruptcy in 1996, and put the company on the path to becoming the giant it is today.

It would be nice if Marvel had managed a settlement with Friedrich, but I suspect lawyers on both sides are always going to get in the way of that sort of thing.

If it makes folks feel any better, in the 70s and 80s Marvel got screwed over by Hollywood on a regular basis due to bad contracts with production studios.  These problems carried over into the 90s, and helped contribute to the company's near downfall.

Wyldstaar, actually the $17,000 is due now. Even though there is an appeal going on, Friedrich owes the money to Marvel to be paid in full. Not only that, but Friedrich isn't allowed to make any money selling anything with his Ghost Rider artwork on it, meaning that he has no income coming in to pay for things like food, or rent. That's why Steve Niles started a campaign fundraiser to earn money for Friedrich's debt to Marvel.

For those without any principals, hopefully you never find yourself in a situation like Friedrich's. Because if you do, I wouldn't lift a finger to help you.

The 17k is due now because the case is over. Actually going after it is another thing. I know people that have had judgements hanging over their heads with no action from the other party whatsoever. If they do go after it and you're actually broke there's probably nothing that can be done to by anyone. But if you own property or items of value the court can make you sell them to satisfy the judgement or they can garnish your paycheck. Of course the laws vary from state to state.

I'd surprised if Marvel actually pursues it. Of course if you come out raise the money and pay then that's a whole different thing

And if you're that far down and don't want that hanging over you there's always bankruptcy

OH come on DaForce.... why so serious??? Are u like related to the guy? geezzz..... Fine, i take it back then....    =(

Wyldstaar 2/15/2012 5:27:18 PM

Very true, Wiseguy.  It is far more likely that Marvel will allow the $17k debt hang over Friedrich as insurance that he won't cause them any more headaches.

Nic Cage.  Genius.  Or, just a guy in a bear suit?
