After a few schedule moves over the past year, we're nearing the release of Tom Cruise's next thriller Valkyrie. The distributor United Artists has unleashed the second full trailer for the WWII film online courtesy of Yahoo and the production team has updated a new look at their official website.

Cruise leads an ensemble cast featuring Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Patrick Wilson, Stephen Fry, Tom Wilkinson, Carice van Houten, Eddie Izzard, Halina Reijn, Kevin McNally, Christian Berkel, Terence Stamp and David Schofield. Director Bryan Singer was behind the camera, based on a screenplay by Nathan Alexander and Christopher McQuarrie.

Plot Summary: Superstar Tom Cruise heads an international cast as Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, the aristocratic German officer who led the heroic attempt to bring down the Nazi regime and end the war by planting a bomb in Hitler's bunker. The "July 20 Plot" on Hitler's life is one of the most heroic but least known episodes of World War Two. Severely wounded in combat, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg returns from Africa to join the German Resistance and help create Operation Valkyrie, the complex plan that will allow a shadow government to replace Hitler's once he is dead. But fate and circumstance conspire to thrust Stauffenberg from one of many in the plot to a double-edged central role. Not only must he lead the coup and seize control of his nation's government... He must kill Hitler himself.

Valkyrie will hit theaters December 26, 2008.

I agree Hanso it's probably one of the best accents I have EVER heard.... Movie looks alright, just funny how everyone in the film seems to be German or at least eastern european and not him LOL.

It's nice to see Singer teamed up with McQuarrie again seeing that 'The Usual Suspects' is still their best movie, separately and together. Even though elements of 'Way of the Gun' were quite good. Hopefully this brings Singer back to the possibilty of being a top director when Apt Pupil, Usual Suspects and X-Men came out. (X-Men 2 was my favorite in that series but it didn't seem necessary to include that in the group since it was a sequel). I enjoyed Superman Returns, mainly because I wanted to see it and did think it was way too long and not original but the action scenes were nice. But the movie itself did not have the same feel as Singer's previous films and Valkyrie looks like he is going back to it.

You know I always think it's funny in WWII movies when they have the actors talk in English with a german accent. What's the point? If they are supposed to be talking in German and we don't want subtitles the whole time, why not just let them talk in english without the accent. I mean there probably won't be any non german speaking people in the movie so there's no reason to mess with that. Now I might be biased, because I love WWII movies, but I think this looks great. Of course the fact that it has taken them so long to release it scares me.

This is more up Singer's alley I think. He hasn't been great with superheroes but his mysteries have been real good. Looking forward to this. The accent thing doesn't matter. The Germans weren't speaking English they were speaking German and since the film isn't in German what's the difference. English with a German accent doesn't make it more believable than just English.

Agreed about the accents. Tom Cruise is nuts, but he's a talented actor. This looks like it could be pretty good.

I think even though they are speaking German, German accents makes it seem more seemless. They should not have a brooklyn accent right? Same thing. Also same for Russian ones, I think it would be distracting if they did not have a region accent. The only time it worked for pure American accents was Enemy at the gates. Ed Harris was a German with pure American accent did not distract me from the movie.

Despite my previous praises for singer, this trailer didn't draw me in. [shrug]
