Actress Lauren Ambrose has been set to voice one of the title characters in the upcoming fantasy WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE, based on the 1963 fantasy novel by Maurice Sendik. The trade reports she's replacing Michelle Williams, whose voice didn't match up with director Spike Jonze's vision of how the production should sound. Lauren will be starring alongside Catherine Keener, Benicio Del Toro, Forest Whitaker, Catherine O'Hara, Tom Noonan, Michael Berry, and James Gandolfini. The screenplay adaptation was handled by Spike Jonze and Dave Eggers. Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, Sendak, John Carls and Vincent Landay are producing the film for Warner Bros.

Plot Concept: "Where the Wild Things Are" follows the adventures of Max, a head-strong young boy who leaves home after having a fight with his mother -- only to find himself in a mysterious forest bordering a vast sea. Misunderstood and rebellious, Max sets sail to the land of the Wild Things, where mischief reigns.

The adventure film will use a unique process to bring the story to life, incorporating the most dynamic elements of voice performance, live-action puppetry and computer animation.

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE hits theaters Oct. 3, 2008.

Jarrod, not picking at all, but you might want to take Lauren Ambrose out of the people who are starring, as you are starting the sentence with her name. It just read weird to me.... I have liked Lauren Ambrose ever since "Can't Hardly Wait". I never reeally watched Six Feet Under, but I know it is a good show from the episodes I haven seen. She is very good at doing dry sarcasam. Loved this book as a kid, will be interesting to see this as a movie.

I can't wait for this movie to come out. Spike Jonze is perfect for this movie. What I want to know is when it is supposed to come out. I have been checking imdb every once in a while looking for a release date, but I don't trust the date they have listed. Does anyone know when it is slated for release?

Frechley,

At the current time, WB and Legendary Pictures has it set for October 3, 2008.

I'll add that into the article above.
