We lost another legend from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Lauren Bacall has passed away at the age of 89. The sultry and alluring blonde passed away from a suspected stroke at home in Manhattan.

Bacall, born Betty Joan Perske, burst onto he silver screen when she appeared opposite Humphrey Bogart in Howard Hawks; To Have and Have Not (1944). This was only the first of many roles where she would star opposite of her future husband, Bogart. Bacall’s career would span over 70 years and in 1997 she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in Barbra Streisand’s The Mirror Has Two Faces.

Bacall’s career would span everything from film noirs with her husband, to westerns with John Wayne, The Shootist (1976). In more recent years she even appeared on Family Guy

Bacall’s career doesn’t really fall into our genre here at Mania. We nonetheless remember the incredible talent that Lauren Bacall was. If one were interested in seeing her pictures, we recommend To Have and Have Not, The Big Sleep (1946), Dark Passage (1947), and of course Key Largo (1948).

Mania’s thoughts and prayers go out to family and friends.

We’ll leave you with Turner Classic Movies’ Tribute to her.
