@CrazyCEO,
I'd say the combination of the first X-Men film plus the first Spider-Man film really raised the bar for comics movies. Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, and Dark Knight were also top-notch.
Oddly, though, sometimes that just doesn't sink in with producers. I think back on the original Planet of the Apes. The movie biz was in a slump, but PotA was a smash hit for Fox, grossing more than any of their movies in 1968. So they commissioned a sequel.
But what stupid thing did they do? They cut the budget. And thus, several apes in the film are seen wearing pull-over masks instead of the incredible make-up effects that sold people on the first movie. Still, it made a ton of money. So they commissioned another sequel.
And they cut the budget even more. So now, instead of having it take place in Ape City, they had to set it in modern day California so they didn't have to build so many sets. And, there were only two apes in it.
I really hope that doesn't become the trend for comics films. Keep the budgets high, get the best talent, and they will be profitable.

Why did they even have to go with Mystique? TONS of other characters they could have chose from that were actually part of a class at Xaviers school. Fan fav or something? meh, oh well.
