No Mendes for Bond #24

WHAT?

By Robert T. Trate     March 06, 2013

When you have a 50 year old franchise get completely revitalized, it only makes sense to put the same director back behind the camera. Well that won’t happen for the 24th installment of the Bond Franchise. Deadline.com is reporting that Sam Mendes will not return for the next Bond.

“It has been a very difficult decision not to accept Michael and Barbara’s very generous offer to direct the next Bond movie,” he said. “Directing Skyfall was one of the best experiences of my professional life, but I have theater and other commitments including productions of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and King Lear, that need my complete focus over the next year and beyond.”

The possibility always exists for him to return again. So Maniacs, who would you like to see directing a Bond film? Del Toro? Matthew Vaughn? Steven Spielberg? Sound off below.

Skyfall was an awesome picutre.  Mendes brought Bond back from the "Bourne syndrome" seen in Quantum of Solace and to a much lesser extent in Casino Royale (which was pretty darn good despite some minor flaws).  It had enough of the old mixed in with the new to leave most classic Bond fans satisfied, I think.  Also the action sequences was extremely well done especially the choreography.  In this day of fast cuts and shoty camera work to hid the lack of action choreography, I was pleasly surprised by Skyfall.  The hand to hand fight in the empty building done with silohuettes was exceptional.  I think they even had a few shots up for at least 30 seconds.  You just don't see that these days.

Hopefully, Mendes will return at some point for another round of Bond, but he'll (or anyone else for that matter) will be hard pressed to beat/match Skyfall.

Alfonso Cuaron.  DO IT.

Spielberg would defecate bricks if he was offered that job. Just keep George Lucas the hell away from the script and you'd have a fine product.

Those racists bastards over there in the uk don't want an American behind or in front of the camera for a Bond film.

Just go with Vaughn

Wiseguy...lol.....racist....really?This from the guy who did NOT want anyone but an American to play Captain America?

There is so many choices but the fact that they seem to try and keep it more realistic and less with gadgets makes it very promising for whoever gets the job.

So what does that have to do with directing a Bond film?

Uwe Boll

Steven Seagal

Kevin Smith

Tyler Perry

Brett Ratner

Why not give one of these fine directors a shot at it?

Okay, I'm leaving.

Ben Affleck?  Stranger things have happened......

Lol @ Steven Seagal.  That crazy bastard directed On Deadly Ground, where hes a enviroment friendly guy battling eskimos and evil oil corporations or something.  What a piece of crap.

I'm gonna go ahead and offer to direct it.  I've never directed a movie before so I come cheap.
