Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has issued a brief statement on some details for the DVD release of I Am Legend. I expect the full press release will be given the next few weeks but for now, expect a standard edition and special edition on Blu-Ray, HD-DVD & regular DVD on March 18, 2008. The 2-Disc Special Edition will include that new "controversal ending" we heard about in previous interviews, which will come attached to an alternate version of the film.

Both the standard and special have four animated comics (Death as a Gift, Isolation, Sacrificing the Few for the Many and Shelter) and DVD-ROM extras.

Legend opened in theaters on Dec 14 with a 77.2 mil debut on 3,606 theaters. As of yesterday, WB grossed 542.1 million worldwide, 252 of it in the states and another 290 overseas.

I want an Zune version on these disks now. That is not too much to ask for. They should put movie soundtracks on these also for a sp ed. I never understood why they don't. I would pay the markup if it was a good deal.

I'm curious to see this alternate ending...especially since the last half hour of the original version sucked so badly. Will Smith was great, but the CGI mutants were terribly done, and tacking on the woman and child with ZERO character developement for either of them was really sad. Seriously, introducing characters during the last 25 minutes of the film, and actually having them close out the movie is just bad storytelling. Oh well, it's not like the alternate ending will fix any of this!

The CGI mutants were dreadful looking. Hated them! Like you, ultra, I thought the film was heading towards masterpiece status until the mutants showed up and the whole 3rd act began. Talk about a movie shitting the bed.
I'm surprised to read about it going HD-DVD as well. I thought WB was exclusively Blu-Ray now.

I have to agree with you all, the mutants where terrible, CGI creations that suck big time, they should go the way of the novel with vampires and done it with the make up guy in 30 days of Night or the mutants but the same guy zero CGI, that took away some much from the movie, I am incline to say that the Omega Man with Charlton Hesston is better in the third act than this movie and take consideration that this one is a B movie with low budget.

I didnt know about an alternate ending. Let me guess, its about 30 seconds long and this is just hype to make us suckers again and buy it on DVD. I'm sure they'll have two versions out there just so they can rip us off some more.

Sorry but as much as I like watching movies Hollywood as an industry are greedy pricks that try to rip us off at every turn. The billions they make are never enough. Though we are at fault since we keep buying the super triple extra directors special edtion DVD's they keep comiing out with.

Hobbs -

I agree that this is often the case.... but you have to admit that there are a few "Special Edition" gems out there... Lord of the Rings comes to mind immediately; as well as the Abyss. If you've only seen the theatrical version of the Abyss, I highly recommend you go out and rent the Special Edition. The ending is COMPLETELY different... and actually MAKES SENSE! ... unlike the theatrical version.

I'll give you LOTR SinCity but I think they had planned to make them longer for DVD from the start which may be why they turned out so good.

As far as Abyess...I'll have to tak your word on that. I haven't seen it since it was first in the theater and I'm still stabbing myself in the eyes with a dirty butter knife over that showing. If I watch it on DVD I may be forced to commit more harm to myself.
