'I Am Legend' continues to impress at the box office, slipping slightly to #3 this week. The Will Smith vehicle took in an additional $27.5 million, according to estimates published by Box Office Mojo. This brings the film's three-week domestic take to almost $195 million. That's enough to push it into the #9 spot of overall box office for the year, just behind '300' and 'Ratatouille'
The movie was bested by #1 film 'National Treasure: Book of Secrets' and #2 family comedy 'Alvin and the Chipmunks' (which is also looking like a top 10 contender).
It was a disappointing week for new debuts, including the hotly anticipated 'Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem'. That movie ranks #6 for the weekend. Even if you take into account the entire opening week (the film debuted on Christmas Day, a Tuesday), its still #4 behind 'Legend'.
Other slow starters were 'The Water Horse' at #7 and 'The Great Debaters at #11.
