Legendary Confirms 300 Follow-Up

Remember last week's report that a 300 prequel is in development from interviews coming out of the 34th Saturn Awards? Well, Variety has confirmed that a follow-up is indeed getting developed by comic author (and director) Frank Miller. The only issue is the announcement cannot confirm whether it's a prequel, as previously reported, or if it's a spin-off to the 2007 smash hit.
The trade also confirms that original director Zack Snyder---who recently wrapped up filming on Watchmen---is interested in this next story by Miller though he won't officially commit to leading production until he sees the finished concept. Legendary Pictures is keeping the project on their high priority list.
"The vision of Frank Miller's universe that Zack Snyder brought to the screen in '300' is unlike anything ever seen before," said Legendary's Thomas Tull. "We want to be certain that the story originates with Frank and be as compelling as the first."
300 is the #1 All-Time March Opener and #1 All-Time Spring Opener with it gathering up $70.8 mil on March 9-11, 2007. It also became the highest R-rated grosser of 2007 with a domestic gross of $210.6 mil and would go on to gross $456.0 mil worldwide with a budget of only $65 mil.
