LucasArts and TT Games recently announced their plans to release LEGOŽ Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy [working title], the sequel to one of the best-selling video games of 2005. Created by TT Games and developed by Traveller's Tales, LEGO Star Wars II is slated for release this fall across seven platforms. May the Force build with you on PlayStationŽ2 computer entertainment system, Sony PSP, XboxŽ video game system from Microsoft, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Game Boy Advance and Windows.

With a comical take on the Star Wars Trilogy that revolutionized pop culture forever (Episode IV A New Hope, Episode V The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI Return of the Jedi), LEGO Star Wars II follows the Rebel Alliance's battle to dismantle the Galactic Empire and rebuild a galaxy in pieces. From Darth Vader's pursuit of Princess Leia aboard her Blockade Runner to a showdown on the reconstructed Death Star, the game includes even more of the family-friendly LEGO action, puzzles and humor that earned the original LEGO Star Wars such popularity and acclaim.

And much more new to offer, it still has. For the first time ever, levels feature vehicles and creatures that players can ride or exit at will. Also, in LEGO Star Wars II's Free Play mode, gamers can customize more than 50 new playable characters by mixing and matching body parts, to build their own LEGO Star Wars heroes. And on certain platforms, a game save from the first LEGO Star Wars can unlock as many as 56 additional characters for Free Play -- that's more than 100 characters total, plus millions of possible creations! Other exciting additions include the ability to Free Play with vehicles, cool new character-specific attacks and maneuvers, playable mini-kit vehicles, an optional advanced mode for experienced players and more.

"Whether it was your first gaming experience or you've played everything released since Pong, the first LEGO Star Wars was one of those rare video games that everyone enjoyed," said Jim Ward, president of LucasArts. "With LEGO Star Wars II, LucasArts is working with TT Games and Traveller's Tales not only to set players loose through the original three chapters of the Star Wars Saga, but also to make this feel like the true sequel our fans have been clamoring for."

What would be really really cool. ...and I'm totally serious, would be a Star Wars Lego film done in the same manner as Monty Python's Camelot Song Scene done in Lego...

If someone has already done that, or posted it on the web please... please... please let me know!!!

Clarkfquinones, I'm assuming you're fairly young, and weren't around for the original trilogy? Lucas defined cross-marketing promotion, and Star Wars has been 'whoring' itself through everyone (including Burger King) since the late 70s. All I know is I get some sweet video games and collectors glasses out of the deal. Whore-on!

iracors, I was amazed that theres actually a class for kids teaching them how to animate with Legos at the local Saratoga community center!

check out ifilms.com for all their star wars lego fan films... theres TONS of them. I havent seen or heard anything resembling the Monty Python Camelot scene but I think your idea has some merit!

obviously someone mad some money with this dumb game. after 15 minutes or so the novelty wore off.

lracors,
there are some Star Wars lego animations done up, I think you can find them on theforce.net and atomfilms.com (agreeing with McKracken).

I had toyed with the idea of doing one myself, had bought a bunch of Star Wars lego for that purpose, but it's very, very time consuming to do.

Dawntreader,
the Star Wars Lego game was actually quite fun. It's very simple and had some great gags (like Obi-Wan's lightsaber kicking out and him shaking it about reminiscent of Pink Five in Pink Five Strikes Back's blowdryer scene). It's something I'd let my kids play and bask in.

And as to "whoring" - George Lucas got most of the merchandising rights when making the first film because the studio didn't think there'd be money in merchandising such a product. Well, you can call it whoring, but it's absolute genious. Besides, that's how homestarrunner.com makes any money... it's all through merchandising.

Yes they go a bit far and the products often get stupid, but such is life... just sift through the crap and buy the occasional gem. I am still hoping for a massive online X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter game where you and dozens, if not hundreds, of players engage in ten to twenty minute dog fights in space. You blow up, hit space bar, you're launching from your Star Destroyer / Death Star / Rebel Cruiser and getting right back into the action until your host ship blows up or the mission is complete. Then you bask in your stats at the end like you'd do in those lasertag arenas.
Yeah... that'd be nice....

Awwww, Sorry the first game was cute. Actually, given Lucasarts lackluster history on the consoles, I really enjoyed the first one of these. Sure it's simple, but it's one of those games, that I'll probably bring out annually, and play through it, and anybody at any age should be able to have some fun with it.. It's actually better than most of the Star Wars games made for the consoles, (aside from Battlefront 1,2). I wouldn't have paid full price for it, but at 25 bucks, I think I did okay, as the game has tons of unlockables, and lots of replay value.
As far as Lucas being a "Whore". Not much a newsflash. He released an original trilogy DVD set, and then a year later released ANOTHER original trilogy DVD set, with less features, and lamer packaging. He knows his chances of doing anything new aren't substantial, so he's going to milk this Star Wars cow as long as the fans let him.
Anyway, lighten up, this is a quirky take on the series, and it's obviously an advertisement for the lego toys, but they've wrapped it around a good game, and added tons of characters, and features. Honestly I enjoyed the Lego version of the prequel trilogy better than any of the games made for the movies. It will be nice to have the original trilogy game to compliment the prequels.
