Well hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. It’s time to take a bit of a breather. The release schedule the last couple of weeks have been extremely light and hopefully this is giving all of you a chance to enjoy those many great games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, Skyrim, Assassin’s Creed Revelations, Battlefield 3, and all the rest of the recent, top shelf releases. Next week I’ll have a review of the revamped version of Goldeneye as well as a couple of other recent releases. It was a record-setting Black Friday and that certainly carried over into videogames as the Xbox enjoyed its best-selling week ever. Read all about it below.
Skyrim gets patch but problems continue?
You may have got your 1.2 patch this week, just as Bethesda has promised but apparently it’s not the end of player’s problems, especially those who play on the PS3. Some are still reporting lag issues that the patch was designed to fix. Other’s have reported some new issues such as Dragons flying backwards and in-game resistance bonuses to certain magical attacks not working properly. Now I’ve yet to encounter this but I’m not yet that deeply into the game. My son has significantly more time and he had no problems after downloading the patch yesterday (Nov. 28th) so I don’t know if this is intermittent or if we just haven’t reached the point where these issues show their ugly heads. We will continue to follow this closely.
Xbox 360 has its biggest sales week ever!
Well if you needed proof that the Xbox 360 still has a lot of life left, Microsoft has announced the Xbox 360 cver 960,000 consoles were sold in the United States alone last week, including 500,000 on Black Friday alone. This makes it the biggest sales week in the history of Xbox.
New 3DS update running late
A new update to Nintendo’s 3DS unit that will allow users to record 3D movies will not be out until December 8 now. It was originally planned for a November release. The update will allow 3DS owners to record 3D movies, complimenting the existing ability to capture 3D photos. The 3DS StreetPass Mii Plaza is getting some new content for those who have already completed what it has to offer.
Battlefield 3 PS3 owners to get Battlefield 1943 Free!

The Adventures of Tintin (Ubisoft) Rated E PS3, Xbox 360, DS, Wii, PC
The Adventures Of Tintin: The Game is an Action-Adventure game based on the major motion picture, The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn, by Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson, and the classic 20th century Belgian comic that inspired it. The game is a unique blend of classic action-adventure platforming, flight, swordplay, rail shooter and puzzle-solving gameplay. Features include: 2-player co-op, the ability to play as several characters including Tintin's dog Snowy, focused skill challenges against AI and more.
In The Adventures of Tintin: The Game, players assume the role of Tintin, the intrepid reporter and hero of the action-packed movie directed and produced by acclaimed director Steven Spielberg and executive producer Peter Jackson. Developed in close collaboration with them, the video game offers an authentic immersion into the movie's enchanting environments and characters that also remains true to the feel of the original pre-World War II Belgian comic.
Players will experience nonstop action and adventure and a huge variety of gameplay types as they investigate the mystery of a lifetime, hunting for precious scrolls from the pirate golden age that may lead them to one of the greatest sunken treasures. But the quest won't be easy. Join forces with the quick-witted dog Snowy and the grumpy Captain Haddock to beat greedy art collectors, kooky arms dealers, and other crooks to and reveal the truth behind the Secret of the Unicorn ship.
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (Konami) Rated T to M) PS3
Together again for the first time in HD is the Metal Gear Solid HD collection featuring re-mastered ports of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Always a great looking series, the Metal Gear Solid HD collection presents these classic, fan-favorite games in dazzling graphics making them look better than ever. If you’ve played the original versions have no fear that you are tossing your money away buying this collection. This isn’t a case of new paint being slapped on a broken down house. Sure the gameplay is the same but its great to see these games with updated graphics.
The Stealth action series still plays great although Sons of Liberty definitely has the most dated feel of all the games due to its clumsy fixed camera aspect. The plot centers on an offshore clean-up facility that has been seized by a group of terrorists that call themselves "Sons of Liberty". They demand a ransom in exchange for the life of the President of the United States, and threaten to destroy the facility and create a cataclysmic environmental disaster if their demands are not met. Control and camera issues aside this game is a fairly intense affair featuring the young rookie agent Raiden as the primary character among a large cast of great characters.
Definitely a step up is Snake Eater which is a prequel actually set during the 1960s Soviet Cold War era and featuring “Naked Snake” aka Big Boss of the later games in a mission to a jungle region to rescue a Soviet defector who has developed a nuclear weapon-equipped tank. While the storyline may not be as engrossing as Sons of Liberty it makes up for it with more fluid gameplay and controls.
Finally we come to Peace Walker which is the most recently released game and once again features the character of Naked Snake, this time in a 1974 mission to Costa Rica and leading his own team of mercenaries to take out another group of Mercs. Again, not a exciting a story as Sons of Liberty and its spreadout checkpoints result in a lot of replaying of sections but its got the best controls and camera of the three.
The collection also includes some of the extras that came with the original games like the “Snake Tales” missions for Solid Snake. You also get the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 games if you are really a fan of nostalgia. While its not a must-have for those who’ve played the games in their original incarnations, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is definitely a great value for those looking for a great series or for longtime fans looking to play them one more time. Grade B
