NBA 2K Franchise Reaches Record Sales with NBA 2K13 
 
2K Sports today announced franchise record-setting sales of NBA 2K13, the latest iteration in the top-selling and top-rated basketball simulation series*. In its first week of sales, NBA 2K13 sold-through 49 percent more copies than the franchise’s previous fastest-seller, NBA 2K11**. This record-shattering growth is due in part to the expanding global popularity of the NBA 2K brand, which accounted for a 66 percent increase in international sales as compared with NBA 2K11**. 
 
Fans have flocked online to experience NBA 2K13 action with their friends, and the number of online users has more than doubled from last year’s NBA 2K12. In addition, the number of played online games has also grown exponentially, as NBA 2K13 has experienced a 127 percent increase over last year’s totals. 
 
First DLC for Pro Evolution Soccer now available 
 
Konami announced the availability of the first free update for Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) 2013. As with previous iterations of the series, Konami is committed to constantly adding content to PES 2013, and the first free update ramps up the online side of the game. Available today for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the update adds a widget system that acts as a shortcut to gathering friends together for online matches. PES 2013 allows up to eight people to play in a match simultaneously, and the new download adds Community modes, wherein friends can be automatically selected from a pre-determined list and allows communities to track and monitor their results. Users can also now concede a match at half-time as well. 
 
KONAMI will also soon release a 2nd DLC pack that reflects all summer transfers, adds further UEFA elements, team updates and 11 new boot designs. The PES 2013 update is free to download and is now available via PlayStation Network and XBOX Live.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter (EA Games) PS3, Xbox 360, PC 
Medal of Honor: Warfighter is a First-Person Shooter featuring covert Tier 1 military operative combat. The game is a sequel to the 2010 release, Medal of Honor, which moved the long-running game series from its roots in WWII based gameplay, into modern warfare scenarios and true-to-life conflicts. The single-player campaign features mission play involving returning characters "Mother," "Preacher," "Voodoo" and others in operations after their service in Afghanistan. Multiplayer modes include 2-20 player support in which players have the ability to play as one of 13 real special ops units, from 10 countries. 

Written by active US Tier 1 Operators while deployed overseas and inspired by real world threats, Medal of Honor: Warfighter delivers an aggressive, gritty, and authentic experience that puts gamers in the boots of today's most precise and disciplined warrior. RESIDENT EVIL 6 (CAPCOM) PS3, XBOX 360

Like commuters shuffling through the airport, it seems Resident Evil 6 just wants you to “move along, move along”. In an attempt to meld so many of its past themes of survival horror, action/adventures, shooter, and intrigue together, RE6 latches onto any of them very well. In trying to force its cinematic action down player’s throats you find yourself constantly watching extended cut scenes and performing insidious quick-time events to the point where you don’t feel like you are playing RE6 as much as it is playing you and interrupting the gameplay. 

RE 6 offers four campaigns featuring protagonists Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield and Jake Muller, and Ada Wong (once you complete the first three campaigns), with their own distinctive beginnings and endings. But while the campaigns try to build a connection with each other you never get the sense that any cohesion is built. In the first three campaigns you can play as Leon Kennedy or Helena Harper; Chris Redfield or Piers Nivens; and Jake Muller or Sherry Birkin. Each of the campaigns has its own style: Leon’s is similar to earlier RE games and plays up the survival horror factor the most. Chris’s campaign is more shooter-based, and Jake’s more story-driven off the other two and featuring a mix of gameplay elements. Leon’s campaign is the most interesting and for fans of the RE series, the one that most captures the franchises past color. 

The player characters from each scenario will have their own partners which are controlled by either the computer AI or another human player via local or online multiplayer. When playing in single player, the player can allow another player to join in online at any time and inventories are now kept separate from each other. The trouble with this though is that once you have completed your grind of quick-time events and button prompts you have to wait until your partner finishes theirs as well. 

Adding a sheer gut-stab of frustration is the fact that the camera’s loopy perspectives and movements can make the quick-time events and control in general an exercise in frustration. This is borne out painfully in many of the game’s running sequences where you have to pull off well-time button presses to slide under or leap over obstacles in your way. The real obstacles are nothing compared to the annoying camera itself. On an equal par is the fact that the game, as mentioned earlier, controls you as much as you control it. Forget skipping some of those cut scenes…the designers put a lot of effort into creating them and you are going to watch them whether you like it or not! 

Surprisingly though, if you choose to go it alone the AI-controlled partner is actually pretty good. You’ll find your AI partner to be more than just a passive bystander, often providing you the cover you need to perform some task. It’s one of the stronger points in the game. But what ultimately is most frustrating about RE 6 is that it mixes so many spectacular highs with some of the boss battles and set pieces with far too many lows of repetitive shooting and dull exploration which slows the game down considerably. 
Come character’s campaigns and levels seem overly padded with busy work just so that all of them seem to have the same length. There doesn’t seem to have been as much care put into the Jake and Sherry campaign as the Leon and Helena campaign for instance. 

Visually, RE 6 largely rocks. Massive sets, massive monsters, even large character models combine with strong lighting and special effects to make the game a feast for the eyes. The deep shadows and atmospheric lighting lend the game a true eerie quality. Toss in fantastic sounds and voice acting and its clear the designers were trying to make RE 6 a true movie-like experience. But when you play RE do you want to watch a movie or play a game? In the end Resident Evil 6 ends up looking like a Ferrari but driving like a clunky old VW van.  Grade C+
