Lex Luthor 13" Deluxe Collector Figure

By: John Denning
Review Date: Monday, August 07, 2006

After abandoning my first draft (consisting of the word "sexy" written 250 times), I'm at a loss to say something about this figure that isn't immediately obvious just by looking at it. The latest in DC Direct high-end 18" figures, Lex Luthor is the jewel of the series thus far. The head sculpt retains a certain comic book quality without looking cartoonish. Here is a classic visage complete with just enough mascara to do the metrosexual super-genius justice. Realistically proportioned with perfect musculature, it looks as though Lex keeps sound body as well as sound mind.

The costume comes from Luthor's classic uniform for battling it out super-villain style, though seeing as how the Superman deluxe figure came with an alternate Clark Kent suit and tie, it's strange to see that absent with this one. Lex is the kind of villain who doesn't need spandex to do his dirty work. I recommend buying the Superman 13" Deluxe, then letting your Lex Luthor beat him up and steal his suit, after which I suggest the addition of pinstripes.

What Lex lacks in wardrobe, he makes up for in raw firepower. The figure comes equipped with a raygun with removable kryptonite cartridge. It's something to point at your Man of Steel, whether the 18" figure, or even better, some puny 7" you've got laying around somewhere. The figure is fully poseable, so other possibilities include sitting on the edge of your desk telling you what to do or giving Superman a noogie. For once, here's a Lex Luthor who can't be beat.
