Iron Scribes Penning HIGHLANDER Remake - May 23, 2008 - 02:39pm
If I wanted diarrhea, I would have eaten at Denny's. The only way for this to be something other than a pile of crap is for them to take the concept, but retool it. Unfortunately, that means that the title "Highlander" is probably inappropriate. We've had no less than 3 Scottish immortals. I love men in dress as much as the next person, but it's probably time to pick an immortal from a new country. I wonder if Davis is going to be able to let go of the past. Considering that I actually watched every minute of The Source, I hope so.

McConaughey Is the New MAGNUM P.I? - Apr 03, 2008 - 06:51am
Why not have Selleck play Higgins? Wow. Did I just blow everyone's mind?

CBS Cancels JERICHO Again. - Mar 24, 2008 - 11:17am
If you're pissed about this show being canceled a second time, bitching and sending nuts isn't going to save it again. CBS made a decision, they followed through, and it didn't get the ratings. It sucks, but that's the way network TV works. My suggestion is to write letters to thank all of the sponsors. Any company who was kind/visionary enough to back this show, drop them a letter/postcard and buy their product. Let them know that you appreciate their appreciation for a show like "Jericho." Let them also know that you're disappointed that CBS has canceled a show that you enjoyed immensely.

Don't Believe the Hype - Mar 05, 2008 - 06:45am
While I enjoyed Civil War up until the ending, I will most certainly pass on this maxi-series cross-over. This past year, I've dropped most of my Marvel titles from my pull list. The few that remain are typically written outside of normal continuity (Ennis's Punisher, Whedon's Astonishing X-men, the train wreck of writers that is Wolverine). The craptastic end of Civil War, combined with the retcon of everything that JMS did with Amazing Spiderman has turned me off to anything that EIC Smilin' Joe Quesada has to offer. It almost reminds me of the time back in the late 90s when I dropped all of my X-titles (and there were a lot), just because Bob Harras loved crossovers a bit too much for my pocketbook to handle. I'm just going to enjoy a few more Vertigo and WS titles from DC for now.

GABRIEL - Feb 25, 2008 - 09:12am
I saw it this weekend on DVD. Visually stunning. The story is engaging, all though it would be confusing without the text at the beginning. Still, the ending left me kind of cold. I won't say why, but you'll know what i mean after you've watched. Still, worth the rental.

HEROES Toys: Series 2 & 3 - Feb 19, 2008 - 08:57am
How did they do the face scans for these figures? They don't look very good.

New 'Enhanced' LOST S3 Finale Reairs? - Jan 26, 2008 - 10:42am
miko34-- I laughed for 5 minutes at your comment. Jeez, that's funny. I trust the Lost creators to leave more of a trail of breadcrumbs, rather than some Cliff Notes.

WGA Considers the AMPTP/DGA Deal - Jan 18, 2008 - 09:00am
The WGA needs to look at the DGA deal and not back down on anything the the Director's received. But, the WGA's laundry list needs to be chopped down a bit.

Wood Confirms Plot Differences for Two HOBBITS - Jan 12, 2008 - 05:42pm
wrrlykam-- You are a genius! I had never considered using Wood as Bilbo, but it makes great sense. Change his hair color a bit and make sure that he works hard to differentiate between the characters. Adding a few pounds wouldn't hurt either... Wonderful!

Weinstein Company Sign Interim Deal with WGA - Jan 11, 2008 - 09:14am
SAG members won't strike unless the DGA asks them to. The DGA probably will probably have similar basic demands as the WGA, but if the WGA hammers out a deal on new content, then the work will be done for the DGA. I still don't know why the WGA decided to strike now, instead of in cooperation with the other two guilds. I guess they like starving as they picket? I'm glad the Weinsteins were able to make a deal. As far as Hollywood moguls go, I've always thought that they cared more about the art, and less about the product.

Del Toro Prefers FRANKENSTEIN Mini-Series - Jan 03, 2008 - 08:30am
Narpin-- Hollywood is out of ideas. Del Toro is a cinematic genius and one of the few people who has brought something fresh in recent years (Pan's Labyrinth and The Devil's Backbone). Let him have his Frankenstein reinvention. Now, if you're chock full of ideas for new content, email me after the strike and I'll tell you where to go with your untapped genius.

Golden Globes Seek Deal with WGA - Jan 03, 2008 - 08:24am
I suppose that they could do a decent awards show in 11 days. It's mostly jokes and banter wrapped around some research on the nominees for each award. I guess there will just be less jokes, ad-libbed banter, and Wikipedia or IMDB for the rest.

New Line Possessed by THE RITE - Dec 19, 2007 - 07:45am
Wiseguy-- The Catholic Church goes out of its way to debunk every possession claim that they can. However, there are a few modern cases that they can not explain away with a physical or psychological ailment.

WGA Denies Waivers for Globes & Oscars - Dec 18, 2007 - 04:03am
The only way that the WGA is going to get what they want is if the studios are squeezed. The execs have already walked away from negotiations a handful of times, they have their content for the next six months. It's not until we viewers get sick of old, unrevised scripts and reality TV that the WGA will succeed. If you want to help end this strike, as a viewer, don't bother writing the studios. Write advertisers and TV networks. Ask them to help get the writers what they deserve.

WGA Files Charges Against AMPTP with NLRB - Dec 14, 2007 - 01:08pm
Hey NotAFan-- WGA members are paid up front for story and script credits, but their residuals vary in price. The internet package that they want is a percentage. If studios raise prices because that have to pay out to the WGA, then that's just them being greedy. The DVD residuals they are asking for are moving from 4 cents to 8 cents. If you see an increase in DVD prices greater than 4 cents, that's just the studios being greedy. I hate to say this, but the writers are going to be hurting long before the studios do. Since the last strike, the studios have been preparing for this year. They have tons of scripts on file, many films in the can that have never seen the light of day, and more than enough reality TV shows to sate the public. What that means is, writers are going to have to strike much closer to July 2008, when the DGA and the SAG might strike, as well. If that happens, it screws up the 2008 TV season and the 2009 Summer movie season. So, I hope they stand strong. I have DVD sets to watch and BBC America for new content.

BRUCE WAYNE Getting Shelved? - Nov 07, 2007 - 10:54am
Maybe Darkseid finally grew a brain and realized that with Bats on his side, he could rule the universe? Now THAT is a storyline I would enjoy.

WGA Update: 2008 Film Schedule Covered - Nov 05, 2007 - 06:09pm
Writers are the content. Without writers, Hollywood doesn't have content (good or bad). Writers also include "creators," people with "story by" credit. So, when someone pitches an idea, but not a screenplay, they're covered by the WGA too. This strike is about DVDs and internet sales. When a writer hands in a script, s/he is given a check for a union-controlled minimum amount of money (or more). After that, the writer gets a contractually specified percentage of the residuals, TV broadcasts, DVD sales, etc., if the script is produced. DVD sales are discussed in the last contract negotiation, but internet productions are not. The WGA wants to clear this up with the studios. Why? Is it because they're greedy? No. The industry is moving towards DVD-only and internet broadcast content. Ten years from now, movie theatres might not exists and even broadcast television might be on the way out. Without specific language in their new contract, they might lose the pay schedule that they have right now. Call them greedy all you like. You would do the same thing in their shoes. And let's face it, it's not like they're firemen or policemen. When those guys strike, public safety is at risk. When writer's strike, you might miss out on half a season of My Name is Earl.

STREAMS OF SILVER: The Legend of Drizzt Book V - Oct 14, 2007 - 10:12am
I avoided these novels when I was younger. I loved Dragonlance and the Avatar Series, but for some reason I didn't want to fall in love with Drizzt. My biggest problem was the concept, a "good" Drow ranger who lives topside. It sounded like a twink's wet dream. However, when these comic adaptations came out, I started buying them. And I love them. I do miss the artwork from the earlier trilogy. The Icewind Dale artwork. I was glad when they went back to Tim Seely's artwork. Still, all of these books are a great read, and in comic form you don't have to invest so much time to enjoy the story.

Wanted!: Writers for Live Action STAR WARS - Oct 14, 2007 - 10:04am
Hopefully, Lucas is inviting John Jackson Miller and Brian Ching from Dark Horse's KOTOR comics and John Ostrander and Jan Duursema from Star Wars Legacy. Both of these books are well-plotted and exciting reads. It would also be nice if Timothy Zahn and Rob Salvatore were invited to the brainstorming table, too. But, an interesting idea that I always had was one where Padme didn't really die at the end of Ep3. She faded away and became a sort of Force Vampire. She travels the universe in a ship manned by her victims and hunts down Jedi.

HELLRAISER Project Not a Remake - Oct 14, 2007 - 09:52am
Woth the tons of content that has been produced by Barker over the years, I don't see why anyone has to re-visit Hellraiser yet again.

The New Look of CAPTAIN AMERICA - Oct 14, 2007 - 09:50am
The costume looks great, because it's a new Cap. So long as it isn't a clone/resurrected/zombie Steve Rogers, I'm satisfied.

Bayer Leads Vampires in NEAR DARK - Sep 18, 2007 - 10:49pm
Whiskey makes a good point. I think the new "Hills Have Eyes" movies are alot scarier than the old ones. Sometimes, a new director can make a better version. I kinda hope that the New Star Wars movies get remade someday.

Lucas Talks Indy Sr. For CRYSTAL SKULL - Sep 18, 2007 - 10:47pm
I am sad to say that I own no less than 4 versions of the OT and at least 2 of the NT. I've said it once, and I'll say it again: Lucas is a consummate salesman.

Major FRIGHT NIGHT Remake Changes - Sep 18, 2007 - 10:43pm
Fright Night is a classic 80s comedy-thriller. It has a great soundtrack, an attractive cast and some very fancy cinematography. The story was nothing special, a modern retelling of Dracula mixed with (as Batman777 suggested) a bit of Hitchcock. There's no reason to remake this movie. It was great in the 80s. It will be straight-to-video nonsense now. My guess is, someone owned the rights to Fright Night and bought a vampire script from some starving screenwriter. The producers changed the title and voila! Remake schlock.

AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #544 - Sep 14, 2007 - 07:43pm
muchdrama-- You can't place all the blame on Quesada. JMS is at the helm of ASM, even when he isn't writing all of the issues. And Millar is the jack-ass behind Civil War.

Producer Murphy Explains TRANSFORMERS 2 Silence - Sep 10, 2007 - 01:38pm
Not everyone in Hollywood has big paydays. Some actors, sure. Directors, if they're good. Writers, if they're productive. The majority of people working in Hollywood make decent, but not extravagant salaries. The Guilds protect the ability of directors, writers and actors to make good money. Occasionally, their policies seem crazy (eg. by making Bill Murray so expensive to hire that he HAS to work for free, not that Bill is complaining), but for the most part they're like any union. They watch out for the little guy, and you only ever hear about the people making lots of money.

Universal Pictures Ready for IMMORTAL - Sep 06, 2007 - 07:22am
As if Highlander 2 wasn't already enough torture.

Corey Haim Out of LOST BOYS 2? - Sep 04, 2007 - 07:29am
How was that moment "leaked?" It was on the dang show.

A JOUST Movie in Development - Sep 04, 2007 - 07:27am
Coming soon to a theatre near you. "Which way will they roll? Marble Madness. Trying to get to the hole in Summer 2008."

Berg, Bateman, Theron Discuss JOHN HANCOCK - Sep 04, 2007 - 07:25am
One trailer with Smith using superpowers drunk will get the crowds to come. Unless his superpowers in this movie are signing his name really big and financing the American Revolution. Then, probably not so much...

Bruce Campbell Not in BUBBA HO-TEP Sequel - Aug 29, 2007 - 09:19am
The only reason that I watched the first Bubba-Ho-Tep was because Bruce was in it. And while the Sam Raimi cameos might give the idea that Bruce's career is "in the toilet," he has been doing television work for the past two decades. The fact that he can walk away from a project like this suggests to me that he isn't hurting for money and he actually gives a crap about the roles that he chooses.

Virgin Goes Intergalactic Reviving DAN DARE - Aug 27, 2007 - 08:52am
There was a Dan Dare revival back in the 80s. They had comic books and a video game. It did great in England. Not so much in the US. Still, it's a good story. I'm not sure what Ennis is going to do with it. He has a tendency to turn everything he touches into "Mature Content."

Three more LOST Casting Additions - Aug 24, 2007 - 12:06am
Why do they have to be others? Couldn't they be people in LA or Sydney at this point?

THE 4400: One of Us - Aug 21, 2007 - 01:45pm
As far as Kyle's ability, if he's working for the 4400 creators, then they wouldn't want Shawn's test to ever see daylight. The 4400 creators want to create a world of wonder, where the forces of oppression are wiped out by man's ability to evolve past his need for a centralized authority. With Shawn's test, it will turn into "us versus them" and lead to a global war, which usually ends up in a centralized authority. So, Ky;e's ability might come from the 4400. The Marked like their centralized authority, and probably stole 4400 technology (since strict authoritarianism leads to scientific stagnation) to create Isabel and impregnate Lily. They would want Isabel back under The Marked's control. Hence the reason that Kyle called Tom. So, Kyle's ability might be controlled by the Marked. There is another possibility. A Third party, who doesn't want to see the 4400's "evolutionary genocide" or The Marked's "ironclad oligarchy" come to be. Maybe Cassie represents this third party, who knows that Isabel won't be controlled by The Marked, and will destroy them. Cassie also wants Collier to stay in the spotlight but segregated/concentrated in Seattle, because she knows that it's only a matter of time before NTAC moves in and rounds everyone up. If Shawn keeps trying to create peace, this might save some of the 4400/P-positives. About 4 eps ago, I was ready to stop watching. After The Marked episode, I'm hooked again. I'm still in denial about Tom, though

Every X-FILES Show & Movie Together - Aug 18, 2007 - 11:32am
The series went somewhere. The whole series was Mulder trying to find his sister, who was abducted by aliens. He found out what happened to her, episode 11, season 7. IMHO, the show should have closed midseason with episode 12 "X-COPS." But, they went on for 2-1/2 more seasons, even after David Duchovny left.

Raimi to Direct HOBBIT, Jackson to Produce? - Aug 14, 2007 - 11:00am
Raimi and Jackson could work very well together. I just hope that they don't split the narrative into two movies. I'd rather have a Lost Tales or a Similrillion movie, rather than two Hobbit movies.

Next HIGHLANDER Direct to Tv - Aug 07, 2007 - 10:57am
myklspader--Are you sure that they canceled Dresden Files? I hadn't heard anything confirmed yet. The Chinese release is not the finished film, just FYI. It's been on the internet for a while now, if you really want to see it, I'm sure you can find it. Granted, from all of the reviews that I've heard of the footage that people of seen, Davis/Panzer might not be able to save this film. Which is a shame, because I was a fan of the show. It's quite possible they fixed what fans found wrong with the film, but it is on SciFi instead of in theatres.

Frank Miller Selects the SPIRIT - Aug 03, 2007 - 02:03pm
CappyMorgan-- Dick Tracy was filmed in a comic books style, but so were a bunch of movies that came before it: Superman, Supergirl, Flash Gordon, Popeye, Sheena, Annie. Dick Tracy did a lot of neat stuff with colors and editing, but stylistically it was a "comic book movie." Miller will make a "Frank Miller movie." Just like Batman was a "Tim Burton movie." I'm not saying that Warren Beatty did a crappy job. I'm just saying that he transferred the comic book to the screen. It was a faithful, clever adaptation, but not exceptionally stylistic.

Weaver Talks Cameron's AVATAR - Aug 03, 2007 - 11:08am
mlaforcer-- While a one-eyed person can enjoy the movie, the 3D aspect will be mostly lost on them. Even the new 3D technology requires stereoscopic vision, which means they would ne two functional eyes.

Johannessen Takes Over MOONLIGHT - Aug 03, 2007 - 11:01am
Whedon just announced that he was continuing the offical Angel storyline with IDW comics, similar to the way that he is presenting Buffy Season 8 with Dark Horse. Just FYI.

Frank Miller Selects the SPIRIT - Aug 03, 2007 - 10:57am
With Miller directing, this might end up being a bit more stylish than previous pulp adaptations (Dick Tracy, The Phantom). Still, it might be better off as a SciFi miniseries, rather than a feature film.

Rodriguez, Lang Join Cameron's AVATAR - Aug 03, 2007 - 10:55am
themacallan007-- Whining drunkard? She got a DUI in Hawaii. She chose jail time over community service. I see the drunk. I don't really see the "whine."

WOLVERINE #55 - Jul 31, 2007 - 12:06pm
This whole storyline really, really sucked. Now I love Loeb, I really do. His work for DC has been top notch. He was able to re-invent Superman as a more human God, and he gave true depth to the horrors that Bruce Wayne has faced and faces every day. You hook him up with Tim Sale and I am always there. The same goes for Spiderman: Blue, Daredevil: Yellow, Hulk: Gray. Even his Fallen Son title was top notch. I just have no idea how he screwed up this Wolvie storyline so badly. From the different species, to Creed, to Romulus. It almost makes me want to put the book down. Granted, I felt the same way when JMS was doing similar stuff with the "spider spirit" and Ezekiel in Amazing Spiderman. I got used to it. I suppose every hero has storylines that don't gel with some readers. I'd give this issue a C-.

Morales Takes On JERICHO - Jul 25, 2007 - 12:50pm
bdd-- Such venom. My goodness. Because of your f-bomb, I might suggest that you weren't a CBS plant. But your carefully-constructed reverse psychology didn't fool me. Granted, I probably will buy the Jericho DVD set now.

HEX Put on Warner Bros. - Jul 24, 2007 - 12:49pm
daforce-- Boy, Jonah Hex has been good this past year too. I'm not sure what they'll use for the screenplay, but Hex has tons of background to work with. Did you pick up the collected DC softcover that had all the old Jonah Hex stories? Most of them are from the 70s, but it was a great read.

PATHFINDER Finds Its Way to DVD - Jul 24, 2007 - 12:45pm
This movie had a wonderful cast and a great screenplay. I think that it was edited by retarded monkeys, though. Terribly choppy. I only watched about half of it and I left. God bless the cheap second-run theatre.

Morales Takes On JERICHO - Jul 24, 2007 - 12:43pm
I think bdd is a CBS plant. But, necroskippy is right. The CBS heads don't want Jericho to be popular, because that would mean that they were wrong. And execs who are wrong, don't last long. Still, if people want to save Jericho, or any TV show, they have to play the numbers game. Constant, relentless letter writing (emails are nice, but letters are better) to TV executives about how much you love the show is just the first step. The second step is writing national sponsors. Every time you see a new episode, write down every sponsor and send them a letter thanking them for supporting your favorite show. Be sure to let them know that you will buy their crap until doomsday, so long as they continue providing you with such quality entertainment. The final step is immoral and insidious, but it will save your show: find Nielsen families in your area. Nielsen families aren't supposed to let anyone know that they are part of ACS Nielsen, but every family member from baby to grandma has to record their radio, television, film, music and internet habits. They do this for every waking hour. So, if you really want to save your show, find these families. I suggest through the kids, and try to bring them over to your way of thinking. Or pay them. Whatever works. You do those three things for the show(s) that you love, and you convince others to do the same, and you will probably save your show. Oh, one last thing. If a network does cancel your show, despite your efforts, you might also consider another campaign, in reverse, to express your displeasure.

CBS, NBC Announce Premiere Schedule - Jul 19, 2007 - 08:59am
Criminal Minds lost Patakin, who was the only reason I kept watching. You can get the same character dynamics and story lines watching Bones.

Leguizamo is HAPPENING - Jul 19, 2007 - 08:55am
I've enjoyed all of M Night's films immensely, save Signs and The Village. Signs was good, in a Hitchcock way, after a second viewing I appreciated it more. The Village would have been awesome if it wasn't for internet spoilers. But, it's my fault for reading them as much as it it whatever DB wrote them.

Avary & Gans Skip SILENT HILL 2 - Jul 19, 2007 - 08:34am
With movies based on a game like Silent Hill, people don't want the exact same storyline. I think the makers of the Silent Hill film captured the mood and world of Silent Hill very well. Maybe the movie didn't scare the crap outta me as much as the game, but it still scared the crap outta me. I was squirming in my seat. Bottom line, it was a good adaptation. BryanWay, if you have a script idea, write it and get yourself an agent. Hollywood needs new blood.

Fox Pulls Out of COMIC CON - Jul 19, 2007 - 08:30am
While Firefly was a great show, it just didn't get the numbers that it needed to stay on the air. Lots of great shows get canceled, Fox isn't the only network to kill a fan-favorite (CBS with Jericho, and who could forget NBC with Quantum Leap). Fox is just being cautious.

Fox Pulls Out of COMIC CON - Jul 19, 2007 - 08:29am

TRANSFORMERS Writers Speak Out - Jul 12, 2007 - 09:56am
Writers are never the problem with a movie. If the screenplay is bad, it is either plished or re-written. Somebody signed off on Orci, Kurtzman and John Rogers' script. Directors have everything to do with how that script is interpreted and shot, sometimes deleting or re-writing entire storylines. Directors are not always the best writers. Not that I'm saying Michael By sucks. To be honest, I loved this movie. Flaws and all.

Star Trek Fan Experience continues with ODYSSEY. - Jul 08, 2007 - 01:04pm
I watched the first episode of the first season. The SFX were really good. Nicely done, very original visuals. The acting wasn't that great. Most of the cast just looked like Trekkies in uniform who were "really happy to be here." During a life and death battle, that's not exactly acting. Granted, the site begs you to watch a Sixth or Seventh season episode first. So, I watched episode one of Season Six. The SFX are even better. SOME of the acting got better, SOME of the acting is Lucasfilm, greenscreen wooden. Where I can almost assime that the actor isn't in the same room with the person he is talking too. I'd also suggest Star Trek: The New Voyages for fans of the Original Series. Somehow, these guys have convinced original Trek actors (Koenig and Takei, as well as Denise Crosby) and original Star Trek writers. Check it out at http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/

New Line Drops MEG Movie - Jul 06, 2007 - 05:11pm
Shark movies will always make money, at least on DVD. Dinosaur movies will always make money, at least on DVD. Just put this puppy on SciFi and sell ads to Starkist Tuna.

Lording It - Jul 06, 2007 - 09:12am
Well, fourth season is probably the last season for RTD and most likely Tennant. Considering how popular the show is, they'll turn the reigns over to someone else. It would be neat to see Martha as a regular in Torchwood. I'm also curious if RTD will still keep making Torchwood if he leaves Doctor Who.

Bay Talks About TRANSFORMERS - Jun 20, 2007 - 12:34pm
Well, at least if Transformers does suck, we know who to blame... "We must protect the All-Spark Cube!" Not a good sign...

Elfman Will Settle Score With HELLBOY - Jun 09, 2007 - 12:15pm
The thing I enjoy about Elfman's compositions is his use of human voice. I think it gives his work a grander tone. However, I suppose there is a fine line between "distinctive" and "repetitive."

THUNDERCATS is Puurrfect for Warners - Jun 06, 2007 - 01:45am
It's not like they're making a Silverhawks movie. Still, a Bionic 6 movie would kick ass!

CLONE WARS Preview - May 28, 2007 - 12:12pm
The announcement last year said that there would be a CGI cartoon based on the Clone Wars (ie. this show) and a live action show based on "other stories in the SWU." There's also been chatter about two made-for-TV KOTOR movies, but I haven't seen that confirmed by Lucasfilm. Say what you like about this "tired" concept, the prequels still made over $1.1 billion domestic (over $2.4 billion worldwide). It's not about waiting to produce a new fanbase, all though the 22 years between Episode 4 and Episode 1 might be considered "a breather." It's about money and taking advantage of the 300+ million fans who will watch a Star Wars show. Star Wars is a business and even if the two TV shows that Lucas produces stink, they'll still make money.

LOST: Through the Looking Glass - May 24, 2007 - 01:39pm
free-lono-- It can't be Locke. He never would have left the island. My guess is that it's Hurley in the coffin. Once they got away from the island, maybe Hurley's bad luck came back and affected everyone around him? Who knows? hanso-- Charlie sacrificed himself to save Claire and the baby. Desmond's vision about Penny was screwed up because he saved Charlie. Charlie didn't want to jinx it. He knew that he had to drown in order for Claire to get off the island. The thing about Jack's dad being alive had me very, very confused. I'm not sure if I like the flash-forward or not, but one would imagine that next season is going to be more off-island storylines.

Smoking to Affect Movie Ratings - May 11, 2007 - 09:31am
There is a simple reason the MPAA is taking this stance on smoking: to deter filmmakers from glorifying smoking in their films. For those of you against this, you're right, there's a terrible double-standard in Hollywood. Sex and smoking will get an R-rating. Violence and foul language are worth a PG-13. The only way to make this fair is to give sex, violence, bad language and drug use an equal rating. However, the difference between those two ratings is worth millions of dollars. Children under 17 may not view a rated-R film without an adult in any corporate-run cinema. Sure, kids can sneak in, but they would either be buying a ticket for another film, or skipping ticket purchase all together. Money lost for the film, either way. Hollywood has long had a relationship with the tobacco industry and many actors still smoke like chimneys. This is another nail in the cigarette coffin. Pretty soon, smoking will only be advertised via word-of-mouth. Think what you want, tobacco smoke does contain carcinogens. That means, that if you have the genetics for cancer, you might get lung, mouth or throat cancer from first-hand or second-hand smoke; about a 1 in 4 chance.

Swank Travels to FANGLAND - May 10, 2007 - 08:48am
Marks' book is about a talk-show producer who travels to Transylvania to meet a crime-boss who has some sort of virus. It's a modern retelling of Dracula, minus the actual vampirism. BTW, the NYT article, plagarized COMPLETELY from amazon. take a look at the two professional reviews for the book. And I don't think Swank is that hot. Mostly because of the way she treated Chad Lowe like a Shiite housewife.

Screen Gems Plans for ARMAGEDDAGAIN - May 09, 2007 - 07:39am
ponyboy-- You couldn't have told that Epic Movie was going to be terrible from the previews?

Bryce on Gwen and SPIDER-MAN 3 - May 04, 2007 - 10:06am
ponyboy-- I'm with you on putting Gwen into the film after Mary Jane is already the love interest, and after Norman Osborn was already killed. I realize that not everything can mirror the comics, but they could have used Betty Brant as Eddie Brock's girlfriend who gets a crush on Spidey/Peter. There's no need to drag a new character and a new actress into the mix, especially when Elizabeth Banks would do well with an expanded role for Betty. All that aside, Howard is a perfect choice for Gwen Stacy.

Emma Watson done with "Harry Potter"? - Mar 19, 2007 - 08:03am
Eh, they have Radcliff for all seven films. If they can make sure that they get Rupert Grint contracted through the last film, the producers can find a similar-looking actress and contract her for the last two films, I don't think anyone will notice. Still, anyone who can walk away from $4 million dollars. If she doesn't need the money, then she might think about biting her lip and doing the last two films for charity...

Robert K. Shaye says "The Hobbit" in 2009 - Feb 19, 2007 - 09:21am
From your list of "dull" Academy-award-winning films, you have revealed yourself, Darthcaifan. It is not hard to understand why one who follows the path of the Dark Side would dislike these films. It would be impossible for you to understand or be entertained by the triumph of the downtrodded and weak over a much more powerful adversary. Remember this, Darth, only the Sith deal in extremes. And only a troll posts in the same thread seven times before noon.

Ben Barnes joins "Prince Caspian" - Feb 05, 2007 - 11:41am
If someone asked me to walk away from a job that I loved and respected for a few million dollars. I'd probably say yes. You can always ask for forgiveness after you're set up for life.

Shyamalan and "The Green Effect" Update - Feb 01, 2007 - 09:28am
mlaforcer-- Imagine a world where Episodes 1-3 had re-writes and different directors? Chris Nolan's episode 3. My take on this is, if you're spending someone else's money, you should do whatever they say: rewrite, rerewrite, switch directors, whatever.

eBay Delisting Virtual Items - Jan 30, 2007 - 08:35am
Sounds like they're trying to avoid a potential lawsuit. I wonder if they'll still let you use PayPal to pay for "trades" between players?

"Heroes'" Sylar is Misunderstood? - Jan 29, 2007 - 08:30am
He's taking powers from people who are "broken." Remember in the six months earlier episode, he took the powers from the guy because there was something wrong with him AND because the guy thought his TK powers were a curse. He took the intelligence powers from she was going to die in a few months. It's as if the list is telling him, or his power is telling him, who is ill and whose powers will be wasted. Then, he adds their powers to his own.

"The Boys" gets the Axe - Jan 29, 2007 - 08:21am
This book has been one of the most fun reads I've had in ages. Shame on DC for chickening out like this. Granted, the gerbil thing was a bit over the top. But it reminded me of something Bisely would do in his background art. It's all good fun when it's Lobo.

"Heroes: The Fix" Images on web - Jan 25, 2007 - 08:44am
Dazzler-- Just asking for the flames, aren't ya? Takei has been doing alot of voice work recently. I'm guessing his casting is pure fan boy on someone's part.

"Smallville: Justice" - Jan 21, 2007 - 11:18am
I have one gripe about this episode: the fact that Oliver didn't tell Lois he was Green Arrow. What the heck would it have hurt? He was leaving anyway. It could have started Lois down the path to becoming a better reporter. It could have led to interesting storylines with Lois questioning Clark's "ever-heroic" presence. Clark has Jor-el's vision of Lana dying if he tells her the truth. Ollie has no such baggage. Plus, he's just a normal human. He doesn't have the "I'm a scary alien" stigma that Clark does. Otherwise, this episode makes up for Zod. That ep was a POS.

You Are the Neverending Story - Jan 17, 2007 - 08:18am
Nadia-- While I do agree that fanfiction can be enough to make a person interested in a canon storyline, most of it is either stupid or irresponsible. Case and point, I've been banging around the idea for a fanfic detailing a continuing set of adventures for the Jedi Master Kit Fisto. I've freeze frame advanced the scene in Episode 3 enough times to convince myself that Palpatine only winged my most favorite of the accessory Jedi. But Lucas killed him. Just like he killed Boba Fett in Episode 6. I think that it's silly to force an existing storyline in a direction that the author obviously did not intend. Like the physical relationship that Han and Luke, or Luke and Leia shared. Or worse yet, Han and Chewbacca. It's adding sexual intent to a storyline that is made for children and young adults that I find inappropriate. I never really wanted to imagine Hermione and Malfoy in flagrante delicto. Some of can be wonderful, though. And, in terms of anime, isn't an OVA made by a different producer just the ultimate fanfilm/fanfiction?

Light at the end of "Lost's" Tunnel? - Jan 15, 2007 - 08:17am
In a early second season EW interview, Abrams and Co. said that they had Lost scripted through 5 seasons. That's the story they had to tell. But, ratings will be the key to see if that story gets told.

New Line chief vows never to work with Peter Jackson - Jan 10, 2007 - 02:39am
From what I've read, Jackson is suing for potential lost money due to New Line giving no-bid contracts to companies within its home Time-Warner conglomerate. Jackson claims that because New Line didn't seek outside bids from other companies, and because his people weren't allowed to be part of the bidding process, he lost potential income. Here's an article from CNN. http://money.cnn.com/2005/06/27/news/newsmakers/peterjackson_lawsuit/ So, this isn't some accounting chicanery issue. This is litigious maneuvering. Maybe Jackson is right? Maybe they cost him money by keeping everything in-house? But, unless his contract stated that he had some say in the merchandising process he's kind of screwed. Saul Zaentz (the guy who owns the rights to Tolkien's works) has gone on the record saying that he wants Jackson on board AND the New Line owes Jackson some amount in terms of "profit share." And he should know. But he's not suing New Line. http://www.showbizdata.com/contacts/picknews.cfm/42817/ZAENTZ_RINGS_IN_JACKSON_FOR_PREQUELS

David Tennant to leave "Doctor Who" - Dec 29, 2006 - 10:30am
Tennant and Davies have a very good relationship. If Tennant is looking for other options, then it's only because he's bored. Still, this is the first I've heard of it. A lack of admission or denial isn't exactly "truth." Still, Who and Torchwood are doing so well now in the UK that the BBS might do what they can to keep Tennant on, even if he decided to leave.

Peter Jackson not directing "The Hobbit" - Nov 20, 2006 - 09:25am
No decent director will touch this project. Who would ever want to follow "Oscar-winning" Peter Jackson? The only way this movie would have any credibility is if Jackson was directing. Otherwise, everyone who watches it will wonder how that fuzzy kiwi would have done things differently.

Frank Darabont talks "Indiana Jones" - Nov 08, 2006 - 07:04am
In the news, Spielberg says he's ready. Harrison Ford says he's ready. Even Lucas says he's ready. But, I can understand Lucas' hesitation. For all intents and purposes, THIS will be the last Indiana Jones movie. Lucas wants it to be perfect and he's the guy with the money. I'm sure that Spielberg will contribute something to the production funding, but Lucas is probably footing this one completely on his own. It's not about creative rights. I'm sure that Darabont's screenplay was "compelling" and "poignant" and all of the good 50-cent words. It sounds like it just didn't feel like Indy to George. And when your credibility as a creator and $50-200 million dollars are at stake, you should be able to say 'Yeah, I don't think so, I don't like it.'

Have you “LOST” interest? - Nov 06, 2006 - 11:38am
Not to ruin the magic behind Lost, but Eko was probably hallucinating from his injuries at the hatch and with the polar bear. I don't think he saw his brother, or spoke with anyone "real." Even the encounter with the smoke monster, nobody else saw it. It was just Eko not letting go. A death rattle. My guess is, the entire episode was just like the Hurley episode where Hurley was talking to his imaginary friend. It was all in Eko's mind. In the end, the actor was done with the role and left the series on a high note. I'll miss the character, but this next episode better make up for some lost ground.

INDIANA JONES 4 still in development - Oct 05, 2006 - 09:36am
The last time anyone said something, Harrison, George and Steve were all on board and excited. They had a script that they were looking at and moving ahead. Now, Lucas is ramping up his 2 Star Wars TV shows and Spielberg is just always busy. So, it sounds like somebody didn't like the latest script. I applaud their caution. I would rather they didn't make a crappy sequel, just to satisfy us fans. And I wouldn't worry about Harrison's age. Lucas can just JarJar him, if he has to.
