According to TV Guide, Linda Blair (Original Exorcist) and Amber Benson (Buffy) have signed on to appear in various episodes of the CW's SUPERNATURAL.

Blair will show up during November sweeps to bust stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, who play demon-hunting brothers, for, among other things, performing exorcisms.

"For two seasons, the guys have been pulling cons and crimes, and they've always just slipped out of the grasp of police," said series creator Eric Kripke. "Well, the police finally catch up with them in a big way, and Linda plays the detective who is put on their case."

Benson will play "the leader of a nest of vampires that the boys come across. We're sort of twisting the vampire story into a new and surprising direction."

SUPERNATURAL will air on Thursdays at 9pm ET beginning September 28.

Long live Joss Whedon. (And all of his former employees.)

Supernatural is fun, I always miss it, but what I've seen has been really decent... rediculous... but really decent.

This casting news worries me a little, but this show has kicked ass (only 1 season, though) so far. I have wondered how they've managed not to get caught when they use a stolen credit card or show fake law enforcement IDs. Guess people are so glad to get their help that they turn the other cheek. I hope the show doesn't suffer a sophomore slump!

The series definitely requires a suspension of disbelief. In a more realistic depiction of the world, the brothers would have been nailed for identity theft and credit card fraud, not to mention various counts of impersonating officers (everything from local cops to FBI). Then there's the cache of weapons in the car trunk, which is no doubt violating a number of laws depending on which state and municipality they may be in at any given time. Still, it's a fun show and a good match with Smallville for a night of light TV viewing. It's nice to see Heather Benson in another show - I always liked her on Buffy and was disappointed that Tara ended up one of the show's many casualties.

I think the first few episodes counted as an entire season, because it started at a strange time. Like Northern Exposure did, and dare I say it Three's company. Don't hate me for knowing that.

Hmmm, no I don't think there was anything odd about Supernatural's first season that would make the series creator think it's already been on for two seasons. It premiered as a new series in September and ran pretty consistantly through May. It wasn't like it started as a summer series or a mid-season replacement or anything else that might create a partial season.

as much as I like Amber Benson, she has no career anymore which is why she's returning to vampires because it'll remind people of her little stint on Buffy and it'll pull in the loyal Amber Buffy fans. Same with Linda Blair... very little actual career anymore.. everything she does is linked to exorcisms in some way because she's typecast that way.

How the fuck did this piece of shit manage to stay on the air, when good shows like surface-Invasion and Threshold got the boot. Television audiences must be fucking morons.
snallygaster 9/15/2006 6:45:29 AM
Surface/Invasion/Threshold each aired on the Big Three networks where they expect considerably higher ratings to keep their shows afloat. OTOH, shows on the WB only need a couple million viewers to be considered a hit.
