Star Trek... Chopsaki just say it......Star Trek

Previous reports that 20th Century Fox was fast-tracking a prequel to the Alien series may have been a bit premature. Or rather the studio's demand to have original helmer Ridley Scott back in the directing chair has taken the project out of their rush demands. Along with reporting that "Lost" exec producer/writer Damon Lindelof has jumped on board for some story rewrites, Mike Fleming at Deadline NY says that the helmer Scott may have other planned productions that come first.
Those include the Angelina Jolie vehicle Gucci, an adaptation of Justin Cronin's The Passage and Leonardo DiCaprio's The Wolf of Wall Street. None of the titles may exactly inspire genre fans here but if he takes one or two of them, it would mean the Alien prequel gets a backseat treatment for a year or two.
This was perhaps why Scott tried selling one of his ScottFree proteges---commercial director Carl Rinsch---to the studio before they said it wouldn't happen unless he directed it himself. Fox can't exactly back track on their directing demands because since it happened, Rinsch has been assigned to remakes of Logan's Run and Creature from the Black Lagoon.
Do you even want to see an Alien prequel? Sound off below.
Sounds like the studio wants to do this right. Wow, who would have thought?
Agree spiderhero. Fox opting to delay a project for the sake of the right director and script? Amazing
If Lost is any indication of Lindelof's writing then we can expect it to open big then be a WTF moment by the end of the movie with nothing making sense.
That's actually very disapointing to hear he's workign on Cowboys and Aliens....
And genre fans will like The Passage. I just finished reading that book and I could see Ridley Scott doing wonders with that story. The Passage is an epic genre tail about the end of the world as we know it.
I'm with Dazzler. I don't really care about a prequel. I'd rather see a "re-boot" where we pretend that the 3rd and 4th movies never happened, and we pick up with a now-grown Newt having to endure her second round with the "xenomorphs."
Especially with all the excitement around re-boots lately, I'm amazed someone hasn't picked up William Gibson's script for Aliens 3. THAT script was bad-ass.
LOL @ Hobbs. Lindelof = WTF endings.
gutsmgee your playing with fire lol.
Hobbs you know better, Roland Emmerich gets first dibs on all end of the world stories heh.
Scott is awesome and I like Lindelof. Not sure this should be made.
Well if Ridley Scott is directing then I'm more optimistic, but they will still need a solid script. That means it's up to Damon Lindelof to come up with a worthy predecessor. We will have a bit of foreshadowing as Lindelof is also working on Cowboys & Aliens. It will be interesting to see how that project shakes out as well as a certain sci fi sequel which will remain nameless...
