Three more actors have joined star, Virginia Madsen, in the Lionsgate horror, THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT, says Hollywood Reporter. Elias Koteas, Martin Donovan and Kyle Gallner have boarded the film about a family running into supernatural forces after moving into a new home. While the film isn't an "official" remake of any classic horror, readers, think of it as a mix between the Amityville Horror, Poltergeist & The Exorcist.

Plot Concept: The movie will recount the true story of a family forced to relocate near a clinic where their teenage son(Kyle Gallner) was being treated for cancer. The family(Virginia Madsen & Martin Donovan) begins experiencing violent, supernatural events that the parents first blame on stress from the illness, but they later discover that their new home is a former mortuary with a dark past.

Filming will begin shooting this week in Winnipeg.

I don't usually have high hopes for "Scare" flicks these days, but man it would be a welcome change to see a truly frightening ghost story.... it's been a long time.... while not original, the concept sounds decent,

While I love Virginia Madsen, I'll have to see a trailer for this one before deciding to see it or not; sounds a little dull. I like good ghost stories (The Changeling is the best), so hopefully this one will turn out to be good.

I too would like to see a 'good' ghost story. I have to say that it seems that it would be hard to pull off, mainly because 'its all been done before' and it's tough to come up with an idea of how the ghosts should 'look'.

The parents in the story used to lock the boys in the basement at night because they thought the boys were making up stories to scare their younger siblings.

The boys' basement bedrooms happened to be the location of the original mortuary exam rooms. No one believed them about the ghost and they had no way to escape the terrors they were experiencing at night. The older boy ended up being possessed by the spirit, but his parents (still unbelieving) sent him for psychatric treatment thinking it would cure his "problem behavior".

The original story has an old-fashioned gothic feel to it. You've got your unintentional cruelty, a sublot involving the old science vs faith argument, a sickly child who is also susceptible to spirits, and a home with a dark past. I really hope they do it some justice and don't rely on the special effects to tell the story.

That description sound pretty good and spooky, LittleNell. Gives me high hopes for the project.

First: Virginia Madsen is slammin'!!

Second: When I saw the headline, I thought it was a sequel to the abysmal 1999 flick "The Haunting" and threw up a little in my mouth

Third: It sounds like a decent/creepy story and I agree with everyone that we do need a good ghost story nowadays that isn't reliant on piles of SFX and/or torture.

This movie is actually a remake...the original was a T.V. movie depicting real events that occurred (shown during the past two years or so). The sick boy falls under the influence of an evil spirit that is haunting his bedroom (the site of the old morgue).
The T.V. movie was good and a bit unnerving, with the real victims revealing the story (although their faces hidden to hide their identities). It'll be interesting to see how the theatrical movie turns out.

It's actually a tv show thats on everyday in my cable market called "A Haunting". I've seen that episode about 1,000 times, so I'm kind of burned out on it. Perhaps with new actors with real dialouge(the show does "re-enactments ala unsolved mysteries) and good effects, I will enjoy it again.

I watch "A Haunting". I'm a sucker for ghost stories.

Hopefully the writers have taken the details and given it a good dramatic framework. I know the family already added fictional details to their account to make it a more interesting story.

It's kind of the same thing with the Amityville Horror. In interviews, the Lutzes describe a basic haunting. They didn't flee the house. After realizing that they all had separately experienced some type of manifestation, they decided to spend a few days at a relative's house to gain some perspective. It was then that they realized how tense and unhappy they had been, and couldn't make themselves go back. That's not really dramatic or interesting enough for a book or movie. The story we all love so much is quite a bit different than the real story. That's ok with me. I like both the dramatization and the real account.

This was one of the cooler episodes of that series, It could make for a cool Semi-original ghost story movie. I also like the episode with the dad, son, and pregnant stepmom. That one spooked me.
