Lionsgate Gives Out a Nasty SEVERANCE PACKAGE

By: Jarrod Sarafin
Date: Thursday, August 14, 2008
Source: Variety

Most of us have heard of some terrible severance packages but this concept takes the cake for the worst one of them all. Lionsgate has acquired the novel Severance Package written by Duane Swierczynski with plans to bring it to the big screen. The studio has hired helmer Brett Simon (Assassination of a High School President) to flesh out the script with the author and direct while Marc Platt and Adam Siegel are on board to produce.

Plot Concept: The protagonist is a media relations director of a financial company who learns that the firm was a front for a covert intelligence agency that is being shut down immediately, with every manager scheduled to be terminated--literally.

Sounds like it could be fun. I love a good action/thriller movie. I just wonder how many of America's citizens have actually been rubbed out by our own Government?

This sounds like it could work better as a comedy.

Would be interesting to see which direction they go with it. Given that it's a Lionsgate film, they'll probably go the torture-porn route where they have to debrief the managers before termination to make sure they didn't figure something out that they shouldn't have.

So basically, it's The Firm meets Bad Company. I'll see it.
