Lionsgate releases Tyler's BUG score online

By: Randall Larson
Date: Friday, May 18, 2007

Brian Tyler’s latest score, Bug, is to be released by Lionsgate through iTunes and other such digital platforms this month. Tyler, who seems to be just about the busiest composer in town, has created an evocative score that brings together the idioms of jazz, jungle and noise, amongst other things, creating an air of paranoia. The film is from director William Friedkin (The Exorcist) and is based on Tracy Letts’ dark and nightmarish play of the same name. The score will be available online beginning on May 22nd, with the film on screens in the US from May 25th.

Lionsgate will also release a song soundtrack on CD on May 25th, which will include two of Tyler’s score tracks (“Drug” and “Premonition”).

The label has been steadily releasing more and more film scores and soundtracks through iTunes over recent months; in the past they have brought us Akeelah and the Bee and Employee of the Month, while just this month they released Jonathan Goldsmith’s Away From Her, which is from Sarah Polley’s award-winning alzheimers drama starring Julie Christie. Add to that Aaron Zigman’s score for the swimming drama Pride and the forthcoming release of Jeff Rona’s Slow Burn and you really have quite an interesting mix of composers and films. Lionsgate are definitely one to watch.

In additional Brian Tyler news, Brian conducted the London Symphony Orchestra in last March’s recording session for War (formerly known as Rogue). The film, starring Jet Li and Jason Statham, will hit theatres in September. Tyler is also slated to score Alien vs. Predator 2 (AVP2) and John Rambo, the fourth Rambo film. The latter has a Spring 2008 release date.
