Dwight Little has been announced as the director for the big screen adaptation of TEKKEN, based on the martial arts fighting game from Namco. Variety reports that the man who brought us films like the Brandon Lee-led Rapid Fire & Seagal-led Marked For Death will be lensing this futuristic action film for Crystal Sky Pictures. Alan McElroy adapted the screenplay while CSP's Steven Paul and Benedict Carver will produce. Production is set to begin in Shreveport, La on February 4, 2008.

Little gave a description about what to expect...

"The film plays out as a science fiction story set in the near future, about a rebel who rises up against the Tekken Corp. to seize freedom for his people," Little said. "It's a gladiator story, but the videogame has a complicated enough storyline that it provides the template for a martial arts spectacular."

Heihachi better be tossing Kazuya off a cliff. I know little of the Director's work. Looks like he has directed episodes for several popular shows so I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until I see some trailer footage.

Its a fairly simple concept. People hit each other for 90-120 or so minutes loosely packed around a story. It could be a good action film if people don't expect to be changed by seeing it.

Of course it could end up being Mortal Kombat 2 lol...

uh oh here we go again....another game to movie. I really love the Tekken games. The game has a really good storyline but I hope the movie is pulled off effectively. Also looks like this director has been out of work for a while. I wonder why?

Worse, this could turn out like DOA!

Even worse, this could be DOA. Not a very impressive resume from Little, lot of tv work. Hopefully he has improved.

I'm sorry but DOA was a mindless fun popcorn flick!

DOA was so bad, that I enjoyed it. I have like Dwight H. Little's movies. Rapid Fire was very good. He was one of the late 80's early 90's great popcorn action directors that seemed to go nowhere. I just can't believe they are really trying another video game adaptation based on a fighting game. Street Fighter, Double Dragon, DOA all seemed to tank. Only one that seemed to do well was the first Mortal Kombat.

Awesome, from the guy who's last gift to cinema was anaconda 2:in search of a coherent plot... I can't wait for this one now

Considering that the people behind the DOA have all done better, especially Corey Yuen, it's pretty obvious that it was intentionally bad. It's probably the truest game to movie adaptation out there, as the DOA games are pure cheese outside the fighting.
