Ron Livingston is going from Office Space to outer space in the very near future, says the Hollywood Reporter. The actor will be starring in a new sci-fi 13-episode adventure which has Fox TV teaming up with Canada's CTV, Germany's ProSieben and the BBC. The series, called "Defying Gravity", hails from creator/executive producer James Parriott ("Grey's Anatomy") and executive producer Michael Edelstein. Livingston will be co-starring alongside German actress Florentine Lahme while David Straiton has signed on to direct the first episode of the series, which is slated to begin production Jan. 19 in Vancouver.

Once the series is a finished product, it will shopped around U.S. Networks.

Plot Concept: The story is set in the near future and revolves around eight astronauts from five countries who take on a mysterious six-year mission through the solar system.

I'm on board.  Love the hard sci-fi solar system stuff.

I'm on board.  I'm fascinated to see how this multi-national production turns out.  It will be interesting to see how the different influences work together (or tear itself apart).  Plus I'm a big Ron Livingston fan, loved him in Office Space/Swingers/Band of Brothers and even liked Standoff.

So you're the other person who watched Standoff... I knew there had to be one other person besides me who liked that show.

Sounds like more Pentagon-influenced rubbish to me. (The Pentagon does this sort of thing and it's budget for propaganda is bigger than the major media networks combined.) If this was interesting, I'd be interested. It isn't and the only reason I can come up with for this idea being floated is that it's a project that special capitalist interests would like to see happen. Keep the 'taxpaying' public onboard with national security ideology (aka advanced industries via the military). Popular culture that serves to buttress this hi-tech-supporting arrangement is worth investing in, from the standpoint of those set to benefit from it.

On the other hand, It might just be an idea by well meaning movie makers that I find boring. And I could be wrong that it's boring. We'll know once we've had a look.

Fox a new Sci Fi story = a short death.

It might have been cool if it was on the CW or some cable channel, but Fox likes to kill untested sci fi shows while they're young.

Mystery Mission? I take it that either the public isn't aware of this or they are made to only know the particulars as opposed to the bigger picture. I can just imagine what a television interview with one of the astronauts would be like. Mr. So in so, what do you expect to find out there in our Solar System. Hmm I don't know it's a Mystery! Now once again, can you tell our viewers how long you expect to be out there? Six years but anything can go wrong so that's a Mystery too. Who decided that now was the right time for such a mission and why? Well ya got me that's a Mystery in itself! Well thank you Mr so in so. Perhaps they'll change the name of the ship to the U.S.S Mysterious, Im Rhonda Stewart reporting live from Kennedy Space Center.

Interesting concept.  I'm guessing that the astronauts themselves won't  know all the details.  "I believe very strongly in the mission, Dave."

And Arby, at least try to wait until the inauguration before replacing the Bible with Das Kapital, okay?
