Lockup Issues Reported for GTA IV

Some major code issues happening for gamers.

It seems that gamers are not experiencing the wonders of the Grand Theft Auto IV experience these first few days of its release. Many gaming communities around the net are reporting widespread lockup issues and judging by the running commentary, it's happening on both the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

The lockup seems to be happening after the opening scene of the game, with system hangups also happening, which requires the gamer to manually shut of their consoles. The gamers at Kotaku called technical support for Rockstar games, where a representative said the company was "aware" of the issue and they were looking into a solution.

Well, that sucks. This is the first time that a GTA game has come up with issues, especially so quickly. I guess because of it being ported to these next gen consoles, things like happen, but they damn well shouldn`t. It took them long enough to release it. They should have dealt with this awhile ago. Didn`t they beta test these things?

It is logistically impossible to anticipate and or intercept every potential problem in a game as vast as GTAIV, especially considering all the different variables that now plague these next gen consoles. That said the actual game is not only brilliant but far more polished than any of the previous entries in the series. I have both versions and neither has hitched on me even once, though the PS3 version did lock up for about 5 seconds. That isn't to say that people don't have a right to feel frustrated when this type of thing happens but at the same time people also inflate and exaggerate the issues for dramatic effect. Hopefully Rockstar will patch the game soon and we can get back to focusing on the quality of this exceptional title.

Mine should be sitting on the kitchen table when I walk into the house after Work (and Iron Man) tonight. Can't wait to check it out.

there is no joy greater than standing in the middle of a street while 4 of your coworkers are hauling ass towards you in an escalade type vehicle, all hanging out shooting at you, and you light their asses up with an rpg sending them to a firey death.

I'm just glad its happening on both systems. My God! Can you imagine the fanboy fueled flamewar that would erupt across teh intrawebz if only one system had the issues?

yeah seriously chirop, I got this for 360 and haven't had a problem with it yet. Nor did I have any problems with MK Wii, both games f'n rock!

Actually Ponyboy, this isn't the first time a show stopping bug has reared its head in a GTA game. I had the PS2 version of GTA:SA and was hit with TWO bugs that, while only experienced by a minority of players, combined to be pretty awful. The first stopped my character from being able to work out. Everytime I tried, it would tell me I'd worked out too much that day and that I'd have to come back tomorrow. I kept getting more and more out of shape, meaning I couldn't woo certain girlfriends around the city. I got desperate and used a code to beef myself up. As it turned out there was a 2nd bug that prevented you from progressing past a certain mission if you'd used a code. So I used one code to fix a small bug in the game, and was hit by a huge bug as a result and consequently never finished SA. Oh well.

actually the PS3 version seems to have more problems. GTA4 owns your soul!!!!!!

Yeah, I had some "loading" crashes on my 360 version. I bought it on Tuesday and had about three crashes so far (which is a lot for a game). It hasn't really affected me too much as far as gameplay (meaning there were no freezes during a mission), but these would be found by testing even though this game is huge. I think it's a manufacturing issue.

I understand this happening with a computer game but a console system, that's bullshit...This game should have been quality tested as it was being transfered to disk to see if there were going to be any hang ups...I'm sure they beta tested this game the whole time up until release so it probably has to do with what I said above...
