Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures announced today that Amy Adams will star in the coveted role of Lois Lane in the new Zack Snyder-directed feature film of Superman.

Snyder remarked, “Second only to Superman himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about. So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today. Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful.”

Amy Adams will star opposite Henry Cavill, who plays the new Clark Kent/Superman in the film. The main cast also includes Diane Lane and Kevin Costner, as Martha and Jonathan Kent.

Amy Adams was recently honored with her third Oscar® nomination in five years, for her performance in the true-life drama “The Fighter,” with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. She previously earned Oscar® nominations for her work in the acclaimed films “Doubt” and “Junebug.” She has also starred in such diverse hits as “Enchanted,” “Julie and Julia,” “Charlie Wilson’s War,” and “Catch Me If You Can.” She will next be seen in Walter Salles’ “On the Road” with Viggo Mortensen and “The Muppets.”

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.

Superman movie will fly into theaters December 2012.

It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Thanks to wessmith1966 and CaptainSigma for the submission .

Amy Adams...love this talented actress.  So far, the casting has been impressive.  A different take, but Snyder seems to know his heroes.  I might have been in a minority, but I thought The Watchmen was the best adaptation one could make of that gn.  I even preferred the ending.  It just worked in the context.  Anyway, I've had a big crush on Adams for awhile and I think she would make a great Lois.  If I can accept that ma and pa are now a goodlooking younger couple, then I have no problem with Lois being a red head.  Actually, it is preferred.  : )

Not to stir the pot, but this does make Lois almost ten years Clark's senior.  Adams was born in 74 and Cavill was born in 83.

What, no mention of her work in Talledega Nights?  Seriously though, she is a great actress.  I just find it funny to remind Oscar winners of past paychecks that some people tend to frown on, in this case, Will Ferrell haters.

I'm seriously hoping this movie does well.  It's got a great cast so far, I think with Nolan producing, Snyder has a real chance of doing something great here.

By the way, anybody else ever get her confused with Isla Fisher from Wedding Crashers?

I love Amy Adams. She was awesome in Enchanted and of course The Fighter.

She is 36. Cavill is 28. Cougartown at the Daily Planet. :)

Man I'm in love with Amy Adams, nothing beats a beautiful redhead. I still expect them to dye her hair or at least darken it a little bit.

They don't mention that she was in Talledega Nights  because she requested it and who could blame her

A splendid choice.  Actually, Margot Kidder was about four years older than Cris Reeve, so ther is precedent.  Besides, Amy Adams photgraphs young.

Nice. well played Zack, well played.

The chic has to be in her 40s to be considered a cougar and even if you move the age down to say 35, you'd still have to have at least a 10 year age difference between the chic and the guy.

Still she is older than I'd thought they go with though MarcD points out she looks young so no biggie.  Very nice addition to the cast, now to wait for the Viggo announcement.

She's HOT HOT HOT! She a good actress, and like wiseguy my only hope is that they darken her hair. I like my Lois with Jet Black hair.
