Only weeks after the WB network announced it's bringing back a SMALLVILLE style remake of THE LONE RANGER, comes word Columbia Pictures is looking at bringing the western/action-adventure icon to the big screen in a "MASK OF ZORRO style remake."
GLADIATOR producers Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher are working on the film. In an interesting twist it looks like Tonto, known in popular culture since the RANGER's 1933 debut as a stoic sidekick, could be remade in the image of a sexy woman.
For those of you not up on your RANGER lore, the original radio, then movie, then TV series told the story of a mysterious Texas Ranger who, after being left for dead by criminals, returns to ride the west with his faithful companion Tonto, righting wrongs and leaving justice in his wake.
The TV version, unrelated to this project, will hit the WB next fall.
