Lord of the Rings Return of the King
Date: Wednesday, March 26, 2003Plot:
Frodo embarks upon Mount Doom to rid Middle Earth of the One Ring once and for all. While the major motion picture is still quite a ways off, word is that the video game of the same name is currently in development.
Platform:
PC and GameCube versions confirmed, although a PS2 version is probable.
Company:
Hypnos, although it's not known whether it will be published by Electronic Arts (based on the movies) or Vivendi (based on the novels). However, speculation points more towards the latter rather than the former.
Status:
Out in stores.
Latest Rumors:
Developer Hypnos inadvertantly broke the news when they placed an ad looking for developers to work on the project. The ad said that the company was looking for people to work on the PC and GameCube versions of the game. Considering that EA's Two Towers game was only for consoles, this leads us to believe that Hypnos has been contracted by Vivendi to work on its line of LOTR titles.
Inside Buzz:
Chances are, when a title of this stature is in development, someone will be disappointed. It's impossible to cram all of the book into one 20-hour adventure but it will be interesting to see what the boys at Hypnos have in store.
