Hanso & Cheeky... I'm with you. While last night revealed Ben to be tragic, he's still evil. It's not as if he even confessed to killing Jacob (he was caught by Miles and a suspicious Ilana).

Joe... touche, in regard to the D&D alignments you cite in the article. :-) Of course, Ben has always been too selfish to be chaotic good. He's tragic but, then again, I've tended to feel for Charles Manson on the occassions he went into his "having no parents" rant. I'd consider neither one of them to be "good,' though. Had Ben not filled his body full of hot lead, I think the Abadon character would agree with me.

I think most of us are missing the most important elements in Ben's main scene. First, Shmocke seemed to be restricted to the shade. Knowing how lethal he is, one must wonder why he opted to "hide" instead of simply knocking Ilana, Miles & co. unconscious. Second is that Ilana became the "variable," in that she opted to have Ben. Her act of forgiveness is exactly the type of unpredictable thing that Daniel Faraday previously mentioned, and it may prove to be a game-changer. Most people would've killed Ben where he stood, yet Ilana's act of mercy looks to have dramatically altered the dynamics on the island.

Two questions, though:

1)  Does anyone think this weak's finale leads into the "island flashing scene" when Juliet shoots someone else in a canoe?  I can't recall if Locke was on that canoe but, If so, I can see this group releasing a few (desperation) rounds on him.  Makes you wonder who'd be the one to receive Juliet's bullet, though.

2) Hobbs... if you're there, did you not love Alpert's forever cryptic response about how he seems ageless? Once again, another Other refuses to give a straight answer  :-)

I like CheekyMonkey's ending scene for the whole series.

Smlocke has been eliminated, but Sawyer has taken his place (and remember, Sawyer was head of Security at Dharma, and the Smoke Monster is a "security system" among other things).  Jack is the chosen candidate and has taken over Jacob's job.  The SLU has been explained as some sort of afterlife thing; the unsunk island is still the "real" reality.  Everyone else is on their way home; Jack and Sawyer are alone on the island.

Sawyer to Jack:  "Do you have any idea how badly I want to kill you?"  Jack:  "Yes."  Fade to black & cue the Lost "thonk" sound.  END SERIES.

Happy 70th birthday to Chuck Norris and his gas.

(If you don't know why I posted that here in the Lost comments, maybe you haven't been paying close enough attention, or maybe you should consider yourself lucky. ;^) )

Bryzarro, thank you for the kind words sir. If Ben is the good guy, and Widmore opposes Ben, it’s possible, but not certain that Widmore is the bad guy. That’s as far as I’m willing to commit on Widmore at this point.

XPal, congrats to you too for having the faith. We’re on Team Ben!

Isgrimner, I’m with you on both points.

Ddiaz, I guess it was cheese curds… wonder what that means? Little Miss Muffet?

I never had any doubt Ben was heartbroken over Alex. Glad to see he got a measure of happiness on SLU. And yeah, check out Jack’s big balls. Enjoy those balls Jack, you wear them well.

Jedibanner, yeah, I am currently operating on 2 hours of sleep in the last 48, but LOST is my drug. I also enjoyed the music montage at the end.

HudsonTaco, SLU could equal a reward for everything Jacob put them through. It’s possible the past 6 seasons are wiped out and we are looking at the epilogue. I felt that way at one time, not so sure anymore.

Jakester, it is entirely possible both Ben and Widmore have Jacob’s best intentions at heart… maybe Widmore more so than Ben. We certainly have seen enough evidence of two men on the same side detesting each other in the show. (Jack and Sawyer come to mind now and then)

Hanso, my good man, it’s a pleasure making sure the Maniacs out there get to read my musings before they scan around the web. I also knew you would be one of those heel-draggers. ;)

Xpal, I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, Go Team Ben!

LittleNell, religion takes a lot of faith and patience. LOST is my religion, and I have every belief I will be rewarded in the kingdom of finales.

I grew up in Catholic school, but I prefer the immediate gratification of the 60 minute sci-fi drama, so I converted.

Lister, I think you’re being harsh on the season, but to each his own.

BobKM, way to keep the stoicism burning. ;) By the way, I have not felt let down by the SLU. I’m enjoying it. These guys will pay it off. I’m a man of faith, and my stones are huge.

I am curious how dangerous Smlocke would be in the “real” world.

Mtaffer, I like that thinking. It’s possible. I still want to believe that Sawyer and Juliet live happily ever after, so I’m hoping his SLU is a happy one in which Little Jimmy Ford never took to a life of crime, and is a successful underwear model.

BobMK, I’ll say it again, killing in the name of religion, or country is a very relative thing.

Damn, just had one of those profanity things, and I didn't use any profanity.

I understand why Mania has put this system in place (I believe it's mainly to ward off the spam.... but I miss those guys who tried to sell me 20 dollar nikes.)

That said, I'd take that over feeling like a 5 year old. Come on Mania, give us our freedom of expression back!

Very frustrating.

You know me all too well sir.

Fluffhead, you may be right about Desmond being “The One.” I thought the Widmore sub looked kind of 70’s TV effects. I expect more from these guys.

Excellent guess about Widmore being in cahoots with MIB. It’s certainly possible.

Gauleyboy, yeah, I’ve assumed Richard was a Black Rock passenger for some time now, but unless they’re really tricky, the writers tipped their hands in that direction mighty hard last night.

Karas1, again wars are fought every day, and have been since God invented animosity and the feeling of superiority. I mentioned it a few articles ago, but do you really believe Harry Truman was evil to bomb the bomb? Not judging, because as I mentioned, I have no doubt there’s a large number of people on another continent who wouldn’t put him up for sainthood.

Speaking of sainthood, was David evil for slaying Goliath? Was Samson evil for bringing the coliseum down on men, women and children? Just asking, no judging. I’m curious since you’ve taken a hard stand.

Tritan, thanks, and yeah, I think we’re all a little apprehensive about the final episode, but have faith, and good to have you back.

Vinylcharmer, Thank you too…. It’s so nice to be right about something on this show… even when the odds are 50/50. I really started believing it since Ben declared it all those years ago, but since we’ve seen Ben off the island, even though he manipulated Sayid something fierce, I still felt he was doing what he had to do in the best way he could.

Millean, I don’t think Jacob’s touch gives everyone eternal youth… that may have been a special gift he imparted on to Richard, because there wasn’t a ton of foot traffic on that island when Richard landed. Jacob needed a sidekick/lackey/worshipper.

Cheekymonkey, et tu Cheeks? Come on, these guys aren’t going to say it much louder, so I will. BEN IS GOOD. ;)

DeeJay, it's been a couple of decades since I've rolled the old multi-sided dice, so forgive me if I've mixed up my terms. Glad you enjoyed the reference though.

You may be missing why Smlocke is "hiding" from Illana though. My guess is Ilanna is not constrained to the same rules as Smlocke. If she attacks first, all bets are off, but I'm thinking Smlocke would need someone else to kill Illana for him, and that person must do so by their own free will.

Ilanna may be another very old soul doing Jacob's bidding, and she's too clever to botch the job like Bram.

Epilogue!! Epilogue!! I am more convinced every episode, this is Lost however and it only takes one episode to destroy my theory. But just hang with me here, in every SLU we have seen the characters lives have been changed, now for sure as far back as "the incident" after last nights episode. They seem to be better off, maybe not Sayid but even he gets to see the thing he loves the most in the world be happy even if its not with him. It is important to note that he made that choice to push her towards his brother, she wasen't taken away from him he gave her up to atone for his passed deeds.

Now lets look at a character like Mr.Artz, basically the exact same guy we met waaaaay back in season 1 when he so delightfully exploded into chucks that stained Hurley's shirt ;) I think it is safe assume he wasen't ever touched by Jacob as his life would appear to be unchanged in SLU. Now I realize Artz is not a fully developed character we have been watching for a full 6 years but, he still appears to be the same guy in attitude and personality.

I am loving this season so far and cannot wait to see what happens next even if I am wrong. If SLU does infact turn out to be an epilogue of sorts, I find that to be an incredible way to give us closure on all of our characters when the island stuff finally resolves itself.
