LOST moving, DAY BREAK ending early?

By: STEPHEN LACKEY
Date: Sunday, December 10, 2006

ABC is already bracing for the huge cotton candy waste of space AMERICAN IDOL.  No offense to those that watch it, I just think it’s a bit stale.  But the series continues to beat out whatever other series comes up against it, so in preparation for its debut, LOST will be shifting timeslots again when starts back up in February.  LOST started at 8 pm PST on Wednesday nights for season one, then shifted to 9 pm for season two, and when it returns it will move to 10 pm for the rest of season three.  With this announcement ABC has also announced a bevy of new half hour comedies that will run the two hours of primetime before LOST.  These new comedies will debut with five episodes left of DAY BREAK.  So the question in my mind is what will happen to the remaining five episodes of that series?  The fact that ABC didn’t make any mention of it in the press release doesn’t bode well for the series.

Even with most series now in repeats there’s still some good stuff to see this week.  The thing I’m looking forward to the most is the SCIFI miniseries THE LOST ROOM.  The Sci-Fi Channel has really blown me away this year with some good series including BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and EUREKA, so I have high hopes for this new miniseries.  I haven’t heard if it’ll be continued as a regular series but this is exactly how GALACTICA.  I’ll also be checking out this week’s DAY BREAK and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA

Monday

FORENSIC FILES (COURT, 9pm PST) “Garden of Evil”

CSI fans may want to check this real life investigation of dead people.  Police investigate the murder of a disc jockey whose body was found in a garden.

THE VILLAGE (FX, 8pm PST)

While I didn’t think this film was as bad as many critics made out I agree that it’s not necessarily one of M. Night Shyamalan’s best works.  It’s a slim night for new stuff; maybe we should give it a second look.

THE LOST ROOM (SCIFI, 9pm PST)

Part 1 of a 3 part miniseries.  In this installment a Detective Joe Miller (Peter Kraus, SIX FEET UNDER) investigates the death of tow men in a pawn shop after a deal gone bad involving a mysterious key.  Miller is searching for a bunch of items found in a hotel room that all have some magical power, think HEROES with gadgets.  SCIFI has been on a good run lately so I’m hopeful about this one….

CSI MIAMI (CBS, 10pm PST) “Backstabbers”

A suspected terrorist escapes custody after the terrorist group she is accused of being associated with makes an attempt on her life.

Tuesday

NCIS (CBS, 8pm PST) “Driven”

The team investigates an officer who died of carbon-monoxide poisoning inside an experimental vehicle she developed and was testing.

THE UNIT (CBS, 9pm PST) “Silver Star”

Mac tries to help land a private jet via radio after the pilot dies.  At the same time Jonas’ father is awarded the Silver Star for his heroic actions in Korea.  Jonas shares his father’s story with his nephew, also an enlisted man, after he discovers that his nephew beats his wife.

THE LOST ROOM (SCIFI, 9pm PST) “The Comb and the Box”

Part 2 of the miniseries follows Detective Joe Miller learns the full story about the objects in the room and gets some help from “The Legion”.

Wednesday

DAYBREAK (ABC, 9pm PST) “What If They Find Him?”

With the murder book in hand Hopper is able to find a clue that may take him to the shadowy figure behind the frame up and the potential death of his loved ones.

CSI: NY (CBS, 10pm PST) “Silent Night”

A 19 year old deaf woman is gunned down in her house. Also, a 16 year old skating star is murdered while at practice.

THE LOST ROOM (SCIFI, 9pm PST) “The Eye and the Prime Object”

In the two hour conclusion Joe tries to use his allies to save his daughter but one of them has a secret agenda that puts the entire world in jeopardy.

Thursday

LETHAL WEAPON II (COURT, 8pm PST)

Court TV is showing movies now?  Well they picked a good one, one of the best buddy cop movies ever made.  Danny Glover and Mel Gibson star as two cops trying to stop a ruthless South African drug cartel.  Joe Pesci makes his first scene stealing appearance in the franchise here.

HAUNTING (DSC, 8pm PST) “The Dark Side”

Renovations on a historic house are stalled by mysterious events until the homeowners discover that the house was built on a cemetery.

WISHMASTER (FLix, 8pm PST)

An evil genie is accidentally set lose on an unsuspecting world.  Look for a schlocky and very cheesy film, but there is Robert Englund!

Friday

GHOST WHISPERER (ABC, 8pm PST) “Cat’s Claw”

A professor who died in the jungle has attached his ghost to his assistant who is taking sole credit for their work.

DOCTOR WHO (SCIFI, 8pm PST) “Fear Her”

Rose and the Doctor visit London in the near future to watch the Olympic Games and discover that the disappearances of several children may be linked to a single child’s drawings.

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA (SCIFI, 9pm PST) “The Eye of Jupiter”

The Temple of Five is discovered on a planet leading to a standoff between the Cylons and the Colonials.

Saturday

FINDING NEMO (ABC, 8pm PST)

Oscar winning animated film about a clown fish in search of his son.

ELF (CBS, 8pm PST)

Will Farrell plays a 6 foot tall man raised with Santa’s helpers at the North Pole who decides to seek out his real father.  Good for both kids and adults.

IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE (NBC, 8pm PST)

Classic holiday film about a luckless man who discovers just how lucky he really is.

DEAD AND DEADER (SCIFI, 8pm)

Dean Cain stars as a soldier infected with a zombie virus.  He survives the virus only to come home to fight other zombie soldiers.

Sunday

THE SIMPSONS (FOX, 8pm PST) “Kill Gil, Volumes I and II”

Homer gets into a fight during a holiday ice skating show.  Marge takes everyone Christmas shopping only to run into Gil, leading to bad luck for him and The Simpsons.

FAMILY GUY (FOX, 9pm PST) “Barely Legal”

Meg falls in love with Brian after he takes her to a high school dance when no one else will.  Peter and his buddies join the local police force after the Mayor sends most of the current officers to Columbia in search of a character from a movie.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS THE RETURN OF THE KING (TNT, 8pm PST)

The final film in the epic series, even with the multiple false endings, is my favorite of the three.  Frodo completes his journey to destroy the ring.  While everyone else fights Sauron’s forces in some dazzling battles.

I heard some mention of BSG moving to Sundays. I think I read this in one of those blog type things people make on this site. Is this happening when the remainder of the season airs after the new year? Or is this incorrect information?

I think The Lost Room will be like last years The Triangle, just 6 hours long and that's it.

And BSG is moving to Sundays January 21st I think. If it doesn't do well... bye bye BSG.

I think Lost Room's got potential.

Looking forward to the How I Met Mother Christmas special.

Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Required viewing for anyone wondering why PJ should be the only one cosidered for the Hobbit.

I actually liked The Village. It's nowhere near as good as Unbreakable or Sixth Sense but I liked the meta fictional twist at the end.

At least it seemed to be a little more earned that the "Everything happens for reason" bit at the end of Signs. The universe is saved 'cause Cindy Lou leaves the water out, and the preachers brother likes to swing for the fenses. Huh?

What the heck does that have to do with the preacher's wife dying which was initial appreantly sensless event that made him question his faith.

And what's the age old question any way? Why are there wars and death in a world with a benevolent God? No it's why would a benevolent God make a little girl leave a glass of water on the tv? To fight aliens of course how could I ever loose my faith. Oh, Why did my wife die in that horrible car wreck? Who cares? I just wanted to know about that water thing. That was really freakin me out. Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.

Next BSGs had a brilliant season and this sounds like it'll be hell of an episiode.

I sure hope they atleast have an ending to Day Break. I'm realy starting to get into it. It's not the type of show that really needs a lot of episodes to come to an ending either, so 5 more episodes might be a happy number either way.

No mention of the Dexter season finale? How about Masters of Horror? At least tell me when the next To Catch a Predator is coming! I would be much more interested in hearing about these than Finding Nemo and Letal Weapon.

Well, BSG moving to Sunday is certainly a frightening prospect. The only show that Sunday failed to kill was the X-Files and the Simpsons. Of course, the only show a Friday timeslot failed to kill was X-Files as well. So maybe surviving the latter is a good sign. I hope. What exactly will be happening to SciFi Fridays then? No BSG next year and no SG-1. Atlantis has the lowest ratings of the three (I actually learned something from spyder's nonsense) so it would be an interesting choice to anchor the block. Eureka could get me to tune in, but I thought they only ordered a 13 episode season again. I'm confused. What is SciFi doing. Anyone know?

Here's the thing that kills me. What does SCIFI have that's higher rated than BSG? Even if they do have something that's higher rated, say SG-1, that's only one show for a whole week. They ahve to do more work at developing an audience for their shows the way FOX used to in the old days. The X-Files was a flop for the first few seasons but they stayed with it and made a great run. The whole thing makes me nuts because there really isn't a better show on TV right now.

Saddly, this seems to be standard operating procedure for the SciFi Channel. Promote a series, either original or acquired, then just when it starts getting some good press and ratings cancel it.

It happened to Farscape, it happened to the Chronicle, and most recently to SG-1.

I'm hoping i t does not happen BSG. This truly is the best series this channel has produced, and like you probably the best thing on TV this season. But that bad old trend does concern me, especially in light of their shifting time slots.

I personally think the Doctor Who, Battlestar, and Eureka or that new Dressden series(which looks promising) would make a great Friday line up.

The way they have seasons broken up it hasn't even run the same time of year as Atlantis or SG-1. So no conflict there. i just don't understand the way they think sometimes.

By the way Dexter is great. Gotta catch that finale.

And How I Met Your Mother was a Christmas treat. Okay a little silly in places, but great fun and the opening A Christmas Story reference was priceless, and the Grinch theme. Shelving this one Rudolph the Red Nosed Reigndeer, and that other Grinch movie.
