EW.com talked with LOST executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse about the decision to end the series in 2010.

When asked why announcing the end date was a positive Cuse noted, "I think it's a good thing because now, people who are invested in Lost know that there is an end point. You now know exactly how much story there is left. I think there was some uneasiness over the possibility that Lost wasn't going to end well, and the biggest contributing component of that anxiety was not knowing when the show was going to end. Now, I hope the audience will know where this road trip is leading. We hope that announcing this will be really reassuring to our fans who keep wondering, ''When are we going to get answers? When will the show pay off?''

Lindelof added, "One thing I think we have to get out there is this: You won't have to wait until 2010 to get all the answers you really care about. Some of these answers are going to be coming a lot sooner than you think. The reality is, we're not going to make you wait until the last episode to give you everything. "

They also discussed the "codename" of the for the season finale. '''The rattlesnake in the mailbox'' is the full name," said Lindelof. He goes on to explain, "One day, Carlton was looking at his mailbox and thinking this: 'Wow! No one would expect this — a rattlesnake in their mailbox!' He shared this in the writers' room one day, and every writer turned to him and said, 'What kind of sick thought is that?! Of course no one would think of a rattlesnake being in their mailbox, because only an extremely sick, deranged individual would put one in there!' And it was that which made us think, 'Actually, a rattlesnake in the mailbox is the perfect name for what we're doing in our finale.' Because only an extremely deranged individual would think of doing what we're doing."

If they are gonig to ripoff the terrible movie "The Game" I will be pissed.

Maybe everyone dies in the final. :)

Only 3 more years to find out!!!

I can't see that happening, but anymore I don't know where the hell they're going with this.

Someone already thought of the idea of a rattlesnake in the mailbox...in that unfortunate Bruce Willis movie "Color of Night." Not only does someone try to kill Scott Bakula with that technique, you also see Bruce Willis' junk. Can I list any other reasons this should never land on your Netflix list?

I think this is a great idea on their part. No X-Files going on forever and ever. No Firefly being cancelled mid-season. No Twin Peaks trying to pull an ending out of its ass in two episodes.

This allows them to tell just as much story as they want to without having to eke out details.

I agree "Halfuck1" I loved the X-files as much as Lost but in the end X-files went on far too long and answererd so little, many shows also try and cram things in the end. So I like this idea, gives the writters a way to properly get the show to move forward and end right.

Hal Fuck, they still can cancelled the show. Remember Farscape? That was gonig to have a fifth season too.

Even if they decide to cancel early they can do a 2 hour movie like they did with Farscape and what is going on with Stargate with DVD movies.
